According to him, the deputy head of the foreign policy department of the republic, Teimuraz Janjalia, also resigned.

Georgian ambassadors to Bulgaria and the Netherlands, Otar Berdzenishvili and David Solomonia, as well as Italian ambassador Irakli Vekua, announced that they resigned from their positions.

There have been protests in Tbilisi and other cities of Georgia since November 28, after the authorities announced that negotiations on the country’s accession to the European Union were suspended until 2028. According to Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, this decision was dictated by, in his words, the unacceptable actions of European politicians who used grants and loans as a means of blackmail. He also criticized the European Parliament for “insulting Georgia for years”.

The rejection of negotiations with the EU caused sharp discontent among the pro-Western opposition, whose leaders called the actions of the authorities a “betrayal of national interests”. The country’s President Salome Zurabishvili, known for her support for European integration, condemned the government’s actions. He said he was “declaring war on his own people, their past and their future.” On 28 November, he joined protesters in front of the parliament building and vowed not to resign because the parliament was “illegitimate”, even though his term expired on 30 November.
