Josep Borrell, who retired from his post as the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, said that his own gardener condemned him for his support for Ukraine. Borrell told this to the news agency ANSA.
“My gardener asked me: “Why should I pay the taxes to Ukraine out of my own pocket?” “It’s a fair question,” Borrell admitted.
He believes that Brussels is responsible for the lack of support of the population of EU countries for Ukraine – EU bodies do not adequately explain the need for this support. Borrell fears the coming “moment of truth” on financing the conflict in Ukraine.
