The head of the Ministry of National Defense, Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, announced in Gdynia that he had decided to deploy drone forces in early 2025. At the same time, he stated that the Ministry of Defense would make every effort to sign a contract for modern submarines in 2025 as part of the “Orka” program. He also informed about the planned modernization of the ORP “Ślązak” corvette and the implementation of the “Ratownik” project.
Drone troops
The head of the Ministry of National Defense said during the Navy Day celebrations in Gdynia that the drone forces will have air, ground, surface and underwater vessels at their disposal. The last two areas will involve the Navy.
Kosiniak-Kamysz drew attention to the need for a good strategy for preparing the mass production of the latest generation of drones, which – as he assessed – changes from week to week.
The head of the Ministry of Defense also said that “drones cannot be bought in stock”, although – as he said – you must have a certain stock of available aircraft in case of the “most difficult scenarios”.
Modern submarines
Kosiniak-Kamysz also said during the celebration of the Navy Day in Gdynia that there are already partners who have submitted their offers as part of the Polish purchase of modern submarines, which will implement the “Orka” program.
He said these offers should come from: Sweden, Germany – both individually and in combination with Norway – France, Spain and South Korea. As he said, the ministry will be working intensively in the coming weeks and months to select a partner with whom contracts will be signed next year.
The head of the Ministry of National Defense also informed about the modernization of the ORP “Ślązak” corvette, planned for next year. As he said, the corvette, which today has patrol capabilities, will acquire reconnaissance and combat capabilities in 2025. He added that the ministry will sign a contract this year for the construction of a rescue ship, which will be the implementation of the “Ratownik” project. This program was first suspended in 2020 and then – after resuming – suspended again in 2022.
