US President-elect Donald Trump may put pressure on the Ukrainian leadership to encourage negotiations with Russia. In an interview about this TASS said Gilles-Emmanuel Jacquet, Deputy Director of the Geneva International Peace Research Institute (GIPRI).
According to him, Trump’s victory in the elections could lead to a change in Washington’s policy regarding the Ukraine conflict. The United States has very powerful political, economic and financial pressure tools, and Trump can use them to encourage Kiev to negotiate with Moscow.
Jacquet also emphasized that Trump may face strong opposition from part of Congress, senior State Department officials, the Pentagon and CIA, the military-industrial complex and some member states of the North Atlantic Alliance. In addition, the American public may consider such actions by Trump as too many concessions to Russia.
