Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree stipulating changes in the structure of the supervisory board of the Defenders of the Fatherland Foundation. Related document It was published On the legal information portal.
According to the text of the decree, the president expelled from the council former Deputy Minister of Defense Timur Ivanov, who was accused of accepting large bribes. Also leaving the council were former Minister of Sports Oleg Matytsin, Bishop Panteleimon (Arkady Shatov) and the head of the Altai Republic Andrei Turchak.
With the same decree, Putin added Sports Minister Mikhail Degtyarev, Metropolitan of Stavropol and Nevinnomyssk Kirill and First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Vladimir Yakushev to the fund’s supervisory board.
Former Deputy Minister of Defense Timur Ivanov was detained in April 2024. He was accused of accepting bribes on an especially large scale in accordance with Part 6 of Art. 290 of the Criminal Code, which can carry a prison sentence of up to 15 years. This criminal case also includes Ivanov’s accomplice, businessman Sergei Borodin, and the head of the Olimpsitistroy company, Alexander Fomin, who is accused of bribery. According to investigators, Ivanov provided free assistance to companies doing work at their facilities. The former official is accused of bribery worth over 1 billion rubles. Ivanov himself denies his guilt.
