Telling untruths can be divided into three categories: lies, mega-lies and the statements of Donald Tusk. The complete reversal of concepts has become the political method of the current Prime Minister. Everyone sees it, including his supporters. But they will support it anyway.
General Stróżyk’s speech about alleged Russian influence was a spectacle that combined lies and absurdities. Outrageous lies and complete absurdities. For example, a contract with a company, signed by a Platform minister, was attributed to the PiS government. The president was accused of not helping, but it soon became apparent that the committee did not know what it wanted from Andrzej Duda’s officials. Finally, let us take an example, namely the strong statement of the Stróżyk Commission:
The Polish government took no action to prepare Poland for the challenges that could be associated with Russian aggression against Ukraine.
Note the word ‘none’. Literally “none”? It was only two and a half years ago. We all remember those days. The then government could be accused of a number of accusations: that it had not prepared sufficiently, that it did something too late, that it had not foreseen something, etc. etc. But no! No, literally no action.
Stupid sentence? Fudge? Whatever. It’s brazen, Donald Tusk-style: “We don’t have your coat, what are you going to do with us?” This entire conference, including the accusations about the agreement signed by Minister Bogdan Klich, took place in this typical style. Lie in such a way that you completely divert attention from things that are uncomfortable for the current administration. First of all, Tusk’s hole and the general collapse of the economy.
Everyone, including his opponents, is used to Tusk lying and having to live with that. 100 details during 100 days? It was a metaphor, and besides, Duda will veto it. 800plus? Once bad, but now – as Tusk himself claims – his work. Immigrants? Formerly poor people, now bandits. Soldiers at the border and the border guard? Then criminals, now heroic defenders of our security. Previously, he was one of the main promoters of the reset with Russia in Europe. Now a leading Russophobe. And those accused of zoological Russophobia are now believed to be agents of Moscow.
Russophobes of the Valdai Club
Accusations are thrown around that have no bearing on facts or logic. Jarosław Kaczyński and Antoni Macierewicz openly claim that the Smolensk disaster is the result of Vladimir Putin’s deliberate actions. In short, a coup. And at the same time they are believed to be Kremlin agents. Very logical, right? They are accused of this by people who drank vodka with FSB agents, supported the reset, or kissed Putin in the Valdai Clubs. By the way, since February 2024, the same people have been claiming that Putin is capable of committing the greatest crimes and lies. But they see one exception: Smolensk. Here Putin is at the same time the good and the truthful.
This is known to be an ancient method where pickpockets shout, “Beware, thief!” But this time everyone sees it. Yesterday Tusk defended immigrants, today he wants to suspend asylum. What does his media fan club say? Well, this deprives populists of oxygen. The end justifies the means. The rules are designed to keep your opponents in check, and you can lie to your opponent as much as you want. As long as he wins. By the way, this isn’t about Putin. Hating him is a fleeting feeling, not like hating Kaczyński. Putin is just a stick against Kaczor. Soon, if the course changes in Brussels and Berlin, Kaczyński will again be accused of being a dangerous Russophobe.
And only Polish regrets.
This is just a taste of the presidential campaign. You can already feel how disgusting it tastes. And it will only get worse. After all, this government has nothing to be proud of. The Liberal candidate can again promise 100 details in 100 days, but this is unlikely to last. What can he do? Simply announce that he indeed has nothing positive to offer, but that his right-wing competitor is a particularly evil figure. On the one hand very stupid and on the other hand treacherously dangerous. There is a logical contradiction in this, but millions of people have not noticed this for years. And if they notice it, they can still explain to themselves that it is true.
So in the arsenal that Tusk controls, there are only lies, slander and manipulation. Even the old liberal fairies who once complained about the lack of election manifestos in politics will now also explain to themselves that this is necessary. How else can we take oxygen away from populists? And only Polish regrets.
