The Marshal of the Sejm, the leader of Poland 2050, Szymon Hołownia, said that he was seriously considering participating in the presidential elections and did not make his participation conditional on the support of PSL or any other political group. He added that he would announce the decision on the matter before Christmas.
On October 29, information was presented on the work of the neo-commission for investigation of Russian and Belarusian influence in 2004-2024. General Jarosław Stróżyk presented his general assumptions at a press conference. He stated, among other things: that the committee recommends submitting a request to the public prosecutor’s office regarding the possibility that Antoni Macierewicz commits diplomatic treason. He accused the former head of the Ministry of National Defense of withdrawing from the Karkonosze program, which included the purchase of air tankers “without procedure, analysis and consequences.”
Hołownia attacked Macierewicz
We knew that Macierewicz had a chilling influence on the modernization of the armed forces. It is good that the problem with the Karkonosze program has been fully exposed. I hope Macierewicz will finally take responsibility for something. If these are not stories related to the Smolensk Subcommittee, then this is (Karkonosze Program, PAP), and it would be best if they were both (he replied, PAP), because it is a unique plague
– Hołownia said on Thursday in an online interview for “Super Express”.
He emphasized that he expects much more from the committee to investigate Russian and Belarusian influence than what has been presented.
We received certain cases, information about certain events. I expect more in the next acts, to show the system under which the Russians operate in Poland
– said the Chairman of the Sejm.
The marshal is looking for officers
He added that the services are responsible for investigating specific cases and arresting criminals and traitors, while the committee is there to show from a systemic perspective how the Russians invaded our country and where our weaknesses lie.
He also stated that it is necessary to distinguish between stupidity, which – as he said – abounds on the political scene, and the regular operation of Russian forces in Poland. He clarified that there are people on the political stage who translate their obsessions into state policies and decide whether something is implemented or not.
Hołownia emphasized that it was difficult for him to believe in the “agency of Antoni Macierewicz”, but that – as he assessed – many elements of his policy could serve Russian politics.
Is it coincidence or a cause-and-effect relationship? That is what the Public Prosecution Service is for, and not political journalism.
– he said.
When asked about the “presidential thread” that appeared during the presentation of the report, Hołownia replied that he did not know what exactly happened, but that he had a good opinion of both General Stróżyk and the head of the National Security Office, Jacek Siewierz.
I understand this will be clarified
– he added.
According to him, Macierewicz’s position is untenable.
I do not understand using the President’s authority to defend actions that weakened the operational capacity of the Polish Armed Forces and the Allied position
– said Hołownia.
Tomczak’s resignation
In the interview, Szymon Hołownia also referred to the resignation of Deputy Minister of Development and Technology Jacek Tomczak from his position.
It was related to the publication of “Wirtualna Polska”, which accused Tomczak of “collaborating with developers through his notary office for years”. The portal also pointed out that the solutions recommended by Deputy Minister Tomczak in the “Kredyt na Start” program will lead to an increase in apartment prices, and developers will benefit most from this.
Szymon Hołownia responded to the host’s comment that it was difficult to believe that Tomczak’s colleagues from PSL did not know about his activities. Hołownia replied: “It has been stated many times that this issue needs to be looked at very carefully and thoroughly.”
It is very good that (Tomczak) was fired, because such doubts should not exist, especially in such a place.
– emphasized Hołownia. He expressed hope that “the idea of pumping money into developers and banks is dead for good, it has collapsed in this government.”
Presidential elections
Another issue raised was that the Deputy Prime Minister, Head of the Ministry of National Defense and President of PSL, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, invited his partners from the ruling coalition – the Civic Coalition, Poland 2050 and the Left – to a to select a common candidate. for president at the recent Supreme Council of the PSL. He believed that the ruling coalition “cannot afford further quarrels and disputes”. Previously, the People’s Party stated that they would support the candidate of the Third Way (PSL and Polska 2050) for the presidency, which – as they said – would most likely be Hołownia.
Hołownia admitted that he was surprised by Kosiniak-Kamysz’s proposal to select a common candidate for the presidency.
I understand that we agreed on something, that is, if we agreed on a Third Way candidate, a common candidate, there were no names other than mine. And not because I’m so great, but because we agreed, and for me the word is sacred
– said the Chairman of the Sejm.
Beginning of Hołownia
He emphasized that he is seriously considering running for president.
And I arrange everything so that I am ready to make a decision (…) Why? Because I see such a need for Poland
– Hołownia noted.
The leader of Poland 2050 said he had spoken to Kosiniak-Kamysz.
He told me that within the PSL they have their own rules and powers, that the Polish People’s Party must also appear on this whole stage in these elections in a very specific way.
– said Hołownia.
He noted that during this conversation he asked if there was a desire to continue the Third Way project.
And I heard the answer yes
– emphasized the Marshal of the Sejm, adding that he also wants to continue this project, but – as he noted – “not at any price”.
This is a fundamental thing that needs to be clearly put on the table. The whole dynamic that we’re in today that’s bringing us closer to the presidential election has to be played a little differently because it’s a little different than party elections. What really matters is what the vision and face of Poland will be, not which party will win
– he argued.
The leader of Poland 2050 said that his relations with the leader of the People’s Party are close.
However, today the situation is simple: I am preparing everything to make a decision (regarding participation in the presidential elections – PAP), and what the PSL will do is a question for the PSL
– emphasized Hołownia. He added that he was not making his participation conditional on the support of PSL or any other political group.
Details of the presidential run
When asked when he would have time to announce the decision, he said it would happen before Christmas.
When asked whether, if he runs for election, he will take a leave of absence from his duties in the Sejm for the duration of the campaign, or whether he plans to combine the presidential campaign with ‘marsching’, he replied: “Of course.”
Being the second person in the country, namely Chairman of the Sejm, is also a very serious responsibility for a piece of reality, for a piece of Polish security. You cannot leave it to the campaign, I cannot imagine such irresponsibility, so of course I will continue this work and service as Chairman of the Sejm.
– he declared.
He emphasized that he had no “internal ethical problem” with it, believing he could combine the two things if he decided to run for office.
Hołownia was also asked whether, if he runs for president and does not make it to the second round, he will give his support to the KO candidate this time. “We will see what the stakes are, but for now it seems to me a natural scenario to support someone from the democratic camp, and not from the anti-democratic camp.”.
Christmas Eve
Hołownia was also asked in “SE” about the draft amendment to the law on non-working days submitted by the left, assuming that Christmas Eve will be a non-working day. According to Family Minister Agnieszka Dziemianowicz-Bąk, whether he will be off work on December 24 this year depends on when and at what pace the bill will be processed by parliamentarians.
When asked if he was excited about this idea, he admitted that he would have to talk about it with the parties to the dispute.
Because there is very strong opposition from entrepreneurs and very strong support from, for example, employees of retail chains. We have to talk about it
– he said.
He also expressed the hope that “it will be a very good introduction to talking about shopping Sundays and that many substantive arguments will be made.”
I would like to remind you that we have known for about two thousand years that Christmas Eve falls on December 24 this year, so I do not understand why we have to rush to talk about it in November and ask ourselves why, at this session of the Sejm and on a other (we will handle it – PAP)
– he noticed. He recalled that this is a parliamentary bill and it remains to be seen in the Sejm whether it will receive a majority.
