Germany proposes to revive Nord Stream 2

Due to the limited gas supply via Nord Stream 1 and the FRG’s need for Russian “blue fuel”, the German authorities think The Bundestag said about the possibility of launching the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. They reminded that the gas pipeline has already been completed, but certification has not passed.

“In general, no matter what pipeline gas is delivered to Germany, it still remains Russian. In that sense, Nord Stream 2 is pretty symbolic,” explains Klaus Ernst.

Isolation is not an option

In an interview with the German edition of Die Zeit, the Chancellor of the federal state of Saxony, Michael Kretschmer, called the idea of permanent isolation of Russia absurd and dangerous.

In any case, I believe it is absurd and dangerous to permanently isolate Russia or never enter into economic cooperation with it again,” he said.

He added that Russia, which has no ties to China and has no ties to Europe, is “much more dangerous”. According to him, in the last decade strong ties have been established between Russia and Europe in the scientific and cultural spheres, as well as in the business world.

“After the Nazi barbarism and the Cold War, it’s usually a miracle,” the politician added.

people’s anger

Residents of the German city of Bayreuth booed German Economy Minister Robert Habek in his speech on 29 July. The anger of the audience was caused by the politician’s statements about the confrontation with the Russian Federation, the supply of weapons to Ukraine, inflation and the energy crisis in the country.

The vice-chancellor said that the sharp rise in energy prices was linked to a special operation in Ukraine, so Germany should become independent of Russian energy sources as soon as possible. Khabek once again highlighted the political subtext of reducing gas supplies. But at the same time, he added that the country’s government is trying to deliver the turbine to Russia as soon as possible.

“One of the posters calling for German politicians to be tried on the model of the Nuremberg trials,” says the publication Die Welt.

Activists carried banners that insulted the minister.

The crowd chanted, “Warrior, get out!”

people’s prayer

On 28 July, the mayor of seven cities and one commune on the Baltic island of Rügen appealed to the German government with a proposal to consider the use of Nord Stream 2.

The appeal states that the federal authorities’ way of abandoning Russian energy carriers is wrong, according to municipal officials. They believe that energy security and stability of fuel resources are long-term priorities for Germany, if it is not possible to use SP-1 capacity 100%, it is necessary to consider connecting SP-2.

“We have gas in our flat, how about you?”

On July 27, Gazprom once again reduced the supply of gas through Nord Stream – the company suspended the operation of another Siemens turbine. Now the gas pipeline is operating at only 19.5% of its maximum capacity. Therefore, gas prices rose sharply, approaching March records. On July 25, Gazprom warned of a decrease in the volume of deliveries on the Telegram channel.

In connection with the expiration of the period between overhauls before the revision (in accordance with the instructions of Rostekhnadzor and taking into account the technical condition of the engine), Gazprom stops the operation of another Siemens gas turbine engine at Portovaya CS,” the message said.

The company noted that from 07:00 Moscow time on July 27, the daily capacity of the Portovaya compressor station will increase to 33 million cubic meters. m per day

About 20% of Nord Stream’s maximum capacity was transported via Nord Stream 1 on Wednesday, according to information from German gas transmission operator Gascade. Deliveries through the gas pipeline fell by more than half in one day – from 67 to 31 million cubic meters. m. This figure is slightly less than 20% of the maximum declared power.

As of July 29, the Siemens turbine for the SP-1 has not yet been delivered from Canada to Russia.

Klaus Ernst, chairman of the Bundestag energy committee, said it is worth considering the possibility of launching Nord Stream 2 in the absence of other alternatives, as Germany still needs Russian gas. He believes that it is worth putting “SP – 2” into operation.
