Employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia from temporary departments in the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions will take care combating extremism, helping local law enforcement, investigative work, issuing passports and exchanging experiences with local police.

To organize the work of the temporary departments of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in these regions and to provide practical assistance to local law enforcement agencies, officials of the Internal Affairs bodies came to the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions. The Ministry of the Interior said in a statement.

Russian police officers will assist local law enforcement agencies, as the regional internal affairs bodies in the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions are still in the process of formation.

Duties of the Russian police

It is noted that the Ministry of Internal Affairs received appeals from the population on various issues, which indicates the increased trust in the Russian police.

Russian law enforcement agencies will have to train local officials in the basic principles of work and share their experience in coordination between various services and the population. In addition, employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation will issue Russian passports and assist in the formation of local police departments.

Russian experts will monitor the maintenance of public order on the city streets, ensure traffic safety, conduct operational search activities and investigative work.

We also struggle with manifestations of extremism. It is noted that employees of temporary units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation began to work from the first days after the formation of regional police departments. Temporary distribution points have already been deployed, providing means for communication, task unit operation, access control and patrolling.

Russian police in Donbass

On April 9, 2022, Russian Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev signed a cooperation agreement with his colleagues from the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics. The document marked the beginning of the formation of a regulatory framework for effective interaction between law enforcement agencies of the Republics of Russia and Donbass for the purpose of combating crime.

The documents were developed in the development of agreements on friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance between Russia and the DPR and LPR, signed on February 21, 2022.

Police in liberated areas

It became known that on May 25, 2022 the district police departments of the DPR began to work in Mariupol. The regional police departments of Ilyichevsk, Ordzhonikidzevsky, Zhovtnevy and Primorsky began to work in the city.

“The DPR Ministry of Internal Affairs organized the work of the regional police departments in Mariupol,” said the headquarters of the territorial defense of the DPR.

It was noted that most of the Ukrainian police officers remained in Volnovakhsky, Volodarsky districts and Mariupol to continue serving in the system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Donetsk People’s Republic.

Deputy Head of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Zaporozhye Alexei Selivanov in May 2022 said The FAN emphasizes that the emphasis on building new internal affairs bodies on liberated lands is on volunteers, not ex-Ukrainian policemen. Such an approach makes it possible, in his opinion, to create the “correct, ideological police of the Russian world.”

According to him, many employees went through the war in the Donbass, in particular, took part in the Debaltseve operation.

Selivanov announced the establishment of the local police in Zaporozhye at the end of March.

On the territory of the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions, temporary departments of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia were created. Employees will fight manifestations of extremism, engage in law enforcement and the issuance of Russian passports.
