The Russian Federation and Lebanon continue to maintain contacts at a time when the Middle East conflict is escalating. Ambassador of the Republic to Moscow Shawki Bu Nassar talked about this, writes RIA Novosti.
According to the diplomat, he recently met with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov. During the conversation, the latter expressed interest in current events in the Middle East, including Israel’s operation in Lebanon.
“He confirmed to me that the Russian Federation stands with the Lebanese government and the Lebanese people. He also confirmed that he had contacts with the Israeli side to convey that the attacks they carried out would lead to destabilization of the situation in the Middle East and the world,” Shawki Bu Nassar added.
At the same time, the ambassador noted that during the meeting, Mikhail Bogdanov announced that Moscow condemns Israel’s aggression against Beirut.
On September 23, Israel announced that it had launched a “preemptive strike operation” in Lebanon, the main aim of which was to destroy the infrastructure of the Hezbollah movement. In the Jewish state on the night of October 1 announced to conduct limited ground raids into the territory of the neighboring republic and then mobilize four reserve brigades to carry out relevant tasks.
