One of the misinformation is that we are not using the knowledge of the Copernicus system, Prime Minister Donald Tusk said on Wednesday, stressing that the European Commission’s warnings had been analysed in detail by national institutes, and that the forecasts themselves “were variable”.
EU Commissioner for Crisis Management Janez Lenarczicz said during a debate in the European Parliament on Wednesday that the EC has been warning member states since September 10 using the European Flood Warning System, which operates as part of the Copernicus satellite system.
On Tuesday evening, Tusk referred on TVP Info to emerging accusations that Poland failed to respond adequately to the alarm.
One of the many misinformation is that we do not use this knowledge of Copernicus
– he said, adding that national institutes were cooperating with EU experts in an “exemplary” manner, and that the EC’s warnings were being analysed in detail.
The prognosis was variable
– he emphasized.
Declaration of September 13
The head of government also referred to criticism of his September 13 statement, saying that “the predictions are not overly alarming.”
In exactly the same statement I said that no matter how alarming these predictions are, we must be mobilized because there is no doubt that dramatic events will occur.
– he pointed.
The prime minister said he does not like to judge events or the actions of others when he has post-facto knowledge, because “then everyone is wise”.
We prepared these staff and crisis activities – not only in Wrocław – well in advance
– he emphasized.
