““We have contacted Mr. Jerzy Owsiak as the leading specialist in fast, quality help for people,” Prime Minister Donald Tusk said at a joint press conference with the leader of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity in Wrocław. “The first transport with aid for flood victims will leave Warsaw soon,” Owsiak announced. Opposition politicians point out that we are dealing with the abdication of the state. “The prime minister hands over command to Owsiak and announces a collection (!) for destroyed hospitals – with a state budget of PLN 866 billion at his disposal,” PiS MP Radosław Fogiel noted.
The head of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity spoke at a press conference on Tuesday with Prime Minister Donald Tusk, who is in Lower Silesia due to the flood situation. Tusk stressed that now – use is being made of the opportunities of the government, including: Industrial Development Agency – food and water are being delivered to cities such as Kłodzko and Nysa.
This is already a huge help, but nothing can replace (…) a big sprint
– he said.
WOŚP releases money
Owsiak recalled that the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity had already mobilized an amount of PLN 40 million for the purchase of basic necessities. As he noted, the most urgent needs will be indicated by local government officials themselves.
The first transport is about to leave Warsaw
– he announced, adding that arrangements are being made to reach the wounded.
We expect that (…) the truck with all its contents will end up in a safe place (…), be unloaded and then systematically delivered to those waiting for it
– he said.
The head of WOŚP also said that a collection account was created on Monday, with the aim of providing additional support if the amount of PLN 40 million proves to be insufficient. This money is also intended to purchase medical materials and equipment destroyed in flooded cities. As he noted, the value of destroyed equipment alone in hospitals in Nysa, Kłodzko and Głuchołazy exceeds PLN 10 million.
We already have more than 4.5 million PLN in our account, thank you very much for your huge donations
– said Owsiak.
What do flood victims need most?
The head of WOŚP also presented a list of essential items and food that can be donated to flood victims. It included: mineral water, bread with extended shelf life, packed lunches, baby food, hygiene products, paper towels, pet food, cleaning products, power banks, batteries, flashlights, blankets, sleeping bags and pillows.
Owsiak also provided an email address (wodziz.wosp.org.pl) and a phone number (578-275-177), which can be called starting at 11 a.m. on Tuesday.
Call us on important matters, that is, matters that can help us provide our aid. So someone who wants to donate something that we can take and bring to people in need
– he explained.
He also stressed that if you participate in online collections for flood victims, you should verify that they are credible.
This can be done on the website www.zbiorki.gov.pl, approved by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration
– he emphasized.
Tusk: Jerzy Owsiak is the leading specialist in fast, good help
We contacted Mr. Jerzy Owsiak as the foremost specialist in fast, good help for people. We try to coordinate places where organized help can reach, among others: by WOŚP
– Prime Minister Donald Tusk said during the press conference.
I would like to thank everyone involved in helping the flood victims
– he emphasized.
Let us not forget to respect all initiatives without exception. Let us help everyone who needs it
– be at the head of the government.
“To abdicate from those in power
The Prime Minister’s press conference with Jerzy Owsiak caused many reactions. Some Internet users, including: Opposition politicians, but also left-wing MPs and activists, point out that giving aid to a social organization is not a good reflection of the state of the Polish state.
Abdicate those in power. It’s amazing how quickly Tusk took you down
– wrote Jacek Sasin, former head of MAP.
The Polish state resigns. The prime minister hands over command to Owsiak and announces a fundraising campaign (!) for destroyed hospitals – with a state budget of PLN 866 billion.
– said PiS MP Radosław Fogiel.
Does this mean we can expect new billboards with money for the flood victims during the presidential campaign? If you want to help, consider donating to Caritas or PCK for example
— Fogiel wrote in another tweet.
The state must guarantee fast and good help. End of story
– stressed Paulina Matysiak, a member of parliament from the left.
Maybe we should immediately abolish the state and outsource it to a foundation?
– said left-wing activist Jan Śpiewak.
😥This is the capitulation of the state. 🗣The prime minister says that the founder of a foundation that raises money for hospital equipment once a year is the biggest specialist in rapid aid. ❌No, sorry. The state has far more resources and capabilities than any foundation.
