The helicopter carrying Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa crashed shortly after takeoff, but the president was not on the helicopter and the crew survived. The TV channel reports ZBCQuote from Zimbabwe Information Minister Jenphan Muswere.
The incident occurred during the first celebrations of Mumutapa Day, which coincides with the president’s birthday in the southern city of Masvingo on September 15. The celebrations were organised by the ruling ZANU-PF Youth League to honour the ancient Munumutapa Empire, which once existed in what is now the Republic of Zimbabwe.
The events were attended by President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his wife Oxilia, Vice President Kembo Mohadi, ZANU-PF Chairman and Defence Minister Oppa Muchinguri-Kashiri, as well as other senior officials.
Initial evidence suggests that the likely cause of the helicopter crash was a technical fault. The Zimbabwe Civil Aviation Authority is currently investigating the incident.
Formerly Chief of General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces named Causes of President Raisi’s helicopter crash.
