In August of this year, the head of the special control service of the Russian Defense Ministry, Viktor Korshak, said that Russia was strengthening its contribution to the control of nuclear tests despite the withdrawal of ratification of the CTBT. This is indicated, among other things, by the completion of certification of the seismic station in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk.
The USSR conducted 715 nuclear tests – they became one of the main foundations for creating the country’s nuclear shield. The last nuclear charge explosion at the Semipalatinsk test site was carried out on October 19, 1989, and at Novozemelsky – on October 24, 1990.
