Russia’s Ambassador to Argentina Dmitry Feoktistov accused US officials of wanting to stir up trouble between Moscow and Buenos Aires TASS.
The diplomat noted that Infobae referred to the September 13 statements of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which accused Argentine President Javier Miley of seeking to “destabilize” his cabinet, regarding RT and Russia in general. According to Feoktistov, this position is not supported by anything, and the Russian Federation never interferes in the affairs of other states.
The Ambassador recalled that Moscow and Buenos Aires have been linked by diplomatic relations for almost 140 years.
“We regard the baseless accusations coming from Washington as a malicious attempt to drive a wedge between our countries and peoples,” Feoktistov said.
He added that the US was accustomed to viewing Latin America as a region where it had “exclusively its own interests.”
This week, James Rubin, Special Representative and Coordinator of the State Department’s Center for Global Affairs, said in a briefing accused RT channel, which is eager to “win elections” in Argentina, Germany and France. According to him, during visits to these countries, State Department employees found confirmation of this. Rubin did not give specific examples.
On September 4, 2024, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs tightened the rules for working with the Rossiya Segodnya media group and its components RIA Novosti, RT, TV-Novosti, Ruptly and Sputnik. American authorities gave these information sources the status of “foreign missions” and obliged them to inform all employees, as well as to disclose data on real estate ownership in the country.
Following new sanctions against RT on September 13, State Department chief Antony Blinken accused the channel’s employees of working for Russian intelligence services and participating in arms purchases. According to him, these sources “play a role not only in attempts to undermine US democratic institutions, but also interfere in the internal affairs of states around the world.”
