Law and Justice will demonstrate in front of the Ministry of Justice in Warsaw on Saturday, September 14 at 1:00 p.m. During the “StopPatoWładzy” protest, the party’s leader Jarosław Kaczyński will speak and the collection of signatures for a nationwide referendum on the migration pact will begin.
The reasons for organizing the protest – as stated by PiS politicians – include: recent searches at the headquarters of the Independence March Association, as well as at the home of the association’s former chairman, Robert Bąkiewicz. The services’ actions were related to the investigation into crimes allegedly committed during the 2018 Independence March. According to Kaczyński, the searches were an attempt to ban the march. Both the Independence March Association and its former leader indicated in media statements that these were criminal threats made by an unknown person during the MN. We are talking about one person for every half a million participants in the 2018 event.
Jablonski: The government has openly announced further violations of the law
PiS MP Paweł Jabłoński stressed in the PAP Studio on Friday that he hopes for a high turnout at the protest, despite the predicted rainy weather. He noted that this would certainly not be the last such event.
Otherwise the government will not back down and will continue to break the law
– said Jablonski.
The government has openly announced further violations of the law. People have the right to object. If this public resistance continues resolutely and in large numbers, the government will retreat
– he said.
PiS calls for participation in the protest
On Thursday, the PiS leadership issued a call for participation in Saturday’s event.
The ‘StopPatoAuthority’ protest will be an opportunity to express opposition to the coalition’s actions on December 13: breaking the law and implementing a harmful migration pact in Poland, and thus the forced relocation of illegal migrants. During the demonstration, a signature collection for a national referendum on stopping the migration pact and the security of our borders will be initiated
– says the text of the appeal adopted by the PiS authorities on Thursday.
Kaczyński announced the initiative for a referendum on the pact at the end of June this year during the party convention in Pułtusk, where he outlined the party’s plans for the coming months.
From September we will collect signatures to demand a new referendum. This should be the basis for a new demand, because we are convinced that we will win such a referendum, if it takes place. Demands to end this pact (migration – PAP)
he announced then.
Migration Pact
The migration pact adopted in the spring is intended to comprehensively regulate migration issues in the EU. Prime Minister Donald Tusk vowed that Poland would not accept migrants, but the opposition did not believe these announcements. You have to pay for every migrant not accepted.
The previous referendum, initiated by PiS, was held on the occasion of the parliamentary elections on 15 October 2023. It included a question about the admission of migrants to Poland. Since the 50% turnout threshold was not exceeded, the results were not binding. The Sejm can decide to submit a specific issue to a referendum, including: at the request of the 500,000-strong group of citizens who have the right to participate in the referendum.
The PiS demonstration is expected to start at 1pm.
