Today we are strengthening the security sphere with Lithuania in very close cooperation; we are returning in thoughts and ideas to the strength that once flowed from the cooperation of both nations, President Andrzej Duda said after signing a cooperation agreement with the President of Lithuania.
President Andrzej Duda met in Lublin with Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda, who is on a two-day official visit to Poland. During the meeting, the heads of state signed the Declaration on Bilateral Relations.
President Duda spoke at a joint press conference about “strengthening the security atmosphere in very close cooperation” with Lithuania, which is so important in times of continued Russian aggression against Ukraine and a hybrid attack from Belarus.
We have just signed a document on cooperation, which only confirms our close relations
– said the president.
The declaration is signed on the 455th anniversary of the Union of Lublin. As President Duda said: “we return in thoughts and ideas to the strength that emerged from the cooperation of nations, which was so extremely important at that time for the preservation of independence, for building the power of a common state body in this part of the world.”
While we were together in those years, centuries ago, Moscow was unable to defeat us
—- Andrzej Duda emphasized.
Together with Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda we hope that Ukraine will become part of the North Atlantic Alliance. Ukraine implements NATO procedures by also serving in the Lithuanian-Polish-Ukrainian brigade LITPOLUKRBRIG
– said President Andrzej Duda.
Polish-Lithuanian Agreement
The Presidents of Poland, Andrzej Duda, and Lithuania, Gitanas Nauseda, signed an agreement on bilateral relations in the field of cybersecurity and defense industry in Lublin on Thursday (on the 455th anniversary of the signing of the Union of Lublin). During the conference, the Polish President stressed that cooperation is important for both Poland and Lithuania, including with regard to “our neighbors from Ukraine, whom we hope will become part of the North Atlantic Alliance.”
Our neighbouring countries from Ukraine also apply NATO procedures by serving in the Lithuanian-Polish-Ukrainian brigade. They improve by exchanging experiences
– the president added.
Meeting at the LITPOLUKRBRIG unit
Earlier, Duda and Nauseda met in Lublin with the command of the Lithuanian-Polish-Ukrainian Brigade LITPOLUKRBRIG. Grand Hetman Konstanty Ostrogski. The Multinational Brigade consists of units of the Armed Forces of Lithuania, Poland and Ukraine. The agreement to create the brigade was signed in Warsaw in 2014, and the brigade was finally formed in the fall of 2015.
Today is also an exchange of experiences arising from the defense of Ukraine, from the war in Ukraine, where Ukrainian officers and soldiers fight every day in defense of their homeland and, through incredible hardships and paying an incredible price, collect the experience of fighting the Russian invader, which is of inestimable value
– said the Polish President. He stressed the importance of the Ukrainian experience in the context of building defense strategies, preparing defense procedures and improving systemic activities.
This collaboration is of great importance
– he assured.
Andrzej Duda also congratulated Naused on his “great election victory” and wished him a successful next five years as president.
At a subsequent joint press conference, the President of Lithuania expressed his satisfaction that he was starting his second term as President of Lithuania with an official visit to Poland. He recalled that five years ago he went to Poland on his first foreign visit as head of state.
Nauseda said that through such visits, our countries symbolically express the strategic partnership of Poland and Lithuania, supporting common interests and the historical mission. The President of Lithuania stressed that both countries are connected not only by the history of our nations, but also by the dramatic contemporary challenges that we are currently facing.
Nauseda assured that our common, strong voice on the most important issues for the region and the whole of Europe is an example for our other allies.
Strategic cooperation between Poland and Lithuania becomes particularly important today as Russia continues its unprovoked and unjustified, barbaric, large-scale military aggression against Ukraine.
– he said.
Today, together with the President of Poland, we once again appealed to the entire international community to increase efforts to provide Ukraine with adequate assistance to defend itself. We must all understand that the Kremlin regime will not stop. We must stop it. Together with the free world, we must help Ukraine achieve victory,” he added.
– he added.
