PiS MEP Maciej Wąsik spoke in the European Parliament about Russian spy Paweł Rubcow, alias Pablo Gonzales, who had access to the files in his own case, which was granted to him by the prosecutor when Rubcow was already in custody. Wąsik asked the European Commission whether it would apologize to Poland for the accusations about the alleged lack of rule of law during the PiS government, when Rubtsov was arrested and the European Commission defended him.
Maciej Wąsik posted on social media about the shocking information about the prosecutor’s disclosure of the files of Russian spy Paweł Rubcow to the person concerned, when he was already in custody.

The prosecutor handed over the investigation files to the imprisoned Russian GRU spy Pavel Rubtsov. He read them for two weeks. It seems that Rubtsov did his most effective intelligence work for Putin at the headquarters of the Internal Security Service. The secret protocols contain the names of ABW officers, testimonies, operational control materials and testimonies, and many other interesting facts. And spies have good memories…

Wasik’s speech
Maciej Wąsik spoke in the European Parliament and said that the European Commission is unreliable in this matter.
The Commission criticises Hungary for visa facilitations for Russians and Belarusians, and I fully support this criticism. But I would like to draw attention to the Commission’s lack of credibility in this matter
– said Wasik.
In July 2023, we received a report on the rule of law in the EU, in which the Commission criticised Poland for alleged violations of human rights and media freedom. As an example, the report mentions the detention and arrest of Spanish journalist Pablo Gonzales by the Polish services. Pablo Gonzalez was detained by the Polish counter-intelligence service in Przemyśl, near the Ukrainian border, in February 2022 and the court decided to arrest him.
– he said.
The PiS member noted that the EC relentlessly attacked the PiS government for alleged violation of the rule of law, and one of its main arguments was the arrest of Paweł Rubcow, which Brussels judged as a violation of the principles of freedom of expression and journalistic rights and the rule of law.
A month ago, the largest espionage exchange between the US and Russia since the Cold War took place in Istanbul. Did you know that among the ten spies handed over to Russia was Pablo Gonzales, or rather Pavel Rubtsov, because that was the name of this spy. Did you know that he was an officer of the Russian military intelligence service GRU? Did you know that he was personally welcomed at the Istanbul airport by Vladimir Putin? The Polish PiS government was attacked by the committee for violating media freedom by arresting Gonzales, or in other words Pablo Rubtsov, a GRU officer
– explained Maciej Wąsik.
Will the Commission apologise to Poland for the false accusations in the rule of law report?
– he asked.
