If a patriotic circle decides that I should be a candidate to serve Poland in another position, I feel ready for it, Karol Nawrocki, president of the Institute of National Remembrance, told PAP when asked to mention him in the context of the next presidential election.
Next spring, there will be presidential elections. Andrzej Duda will end his term in August 2025. In the context of these elections and the selection of the candidate by PiS, media and political speculations began, among other things. mention the name of the president of the Institute of National Remembrance, Karol Nawrocki. The PiS candidate will be selected by a team led by the party chairman, Jarosław Kaczyński.

The list of potential candidates includes – apart from Nawrocki – former Prime Minister, PiS vice-president Mateusz Morawiecki, head of the PiS club Mariusz Błaszczak, MEP Patryk Jaki, former head of the Ministry of Education Przemysław Czarnek, as well as former West Pomeranian voivode and currently PiS MP Zbigniew Bogucki and MEP and former PiS candidate for the presidency of Warsaw – Tobiasz Bocheński. According to some PAP sources, Bogucki and Nawrocki have the best chance of being nominated.
Speculation surrounding the candidacy
PAP asked Nawrocki about media speculation about his possible candidacy for the country’s highest office.
For 20 years of my professional career, apart from my family and sports passions, I have dedicated myself to the Republic of Poland. I am where I can serve Poland. It is difficult for me to answer what tasks God and Poland will expect from me in the near future
– replied the chairman of the Institute for National Remembrance.
As he noted, “when it comes to specific facts – public, media, considered and discussed – I am not a member of any political party and never have been.”
If the patriotic political environment decides that I should serve Poland in another position or at least pretend to serve Poland in another position, I feel ready to do so, but this does not flow from my plans, ambitions or willingness to change the position of the President of the Institute of National Remembrance, because I feel that I serve Poland at the Institute
– said Nawrocki.
I feel, even though it may be a strong word, a soldier of the Republic of Poland and I have not left this path for twenty years, and what the future and God will bring is not for me to decide.
– he judged.
According to earlier unofficial information from PAP, the announcement of PiS’s presidential candidate would take place between the second half of October and the first half of November.
Karol Nawrocki holds a PhD in history from the University of Gdańsk, is a social activist and specialist in human resources management. In 2017 he became director of the Museum of the Second World War in Gdańsk, and in 2021 the Sejm, with the consent of the Senate, appointed him president of the Institute of National Remembrance.
