President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has filed a lawsuit for moral damages against Tuncay Özkan, a member of parliament from the largest opposition party, the Republican People’s Party (CHP). The Turkish leader’s lawyer Hüseyin Aydın announced this on his page on the social network X.
“A lawsuit for moral damages in the amount of 250 thousand Turkish lira (TL) (more than $7.3 thousand – socialbites.ca) was filed against CHP İzmir Deputy Tuncay Özkan due to his unfounded and inappropriate statements to the president,” the lawyer said.
It was reported that a statement was also given to the Ankara Prosecutor’s Office on the charge of insulting the head of state.
Erdogan regularly sues his opponents and donates the money from his victories to charity.
Before this Erdogan statedHe said Ankara was expecting an apology from Palestinian National Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas, who refused to speak in the Turkish parliament. Erdogan stressed that the Turkish side was expecting the Palestinian leader’s visit but he did not come.
