Why does Compromís think now is the time to impose the tourist tax?
We understand from Compromís that the decision whether or not to apply the rate should be in favor of the city councils. Tourism has to develop with the contributions of residents and visitors. It’s not just about fighting climate emergencyWe must improve the quality of tourism and employment conditions in the hotel and restaurant sector. Or issues such as population access to housing.
When faced with rejection from businessmen and mayors, what are your arguments?
There are businessmen who say they do not agree with the rate and we suggested that they contribute. We have approved a one-year moratorium to listen to the industry. This income will go back to the municipalities and commercial benefit. It should be emphasized that the mayors are not forced by anyone. We cannot ban the rate to municipalities that want to apply it. As in the Balearic Islands or Catalonia, we must work to improve environmentally friendly working conditions and tourism.
Is pedagogy missing when raising taxes?
Compromise never accuses us of not speaking to any representative. Not only employers but also workers expressed their suggestions to us in the sector. We are fully prepared to continue doing pedagogy where they asked us. The parliamentary process has just begun and we will do pedagogy on time where they demand in the second round.
What do you think about the report prepared by the UA experts?
As I understand it, the proposal of the report states: Botanical Forces positive because it wants to improve the economy and preserve the tourist offer. I can’t rate it any higher as I didn’t read carefully, it arrived Wednesday night. Our proposal is that a tax should be applied to the tourist offer, which is considered interesting. For this, we listened to different opinions and presented a flexible proposal that municipalities could accept.
How do you evaluate the position of Francesc Colomer, the regional secretary responsible for tourism?
The regional secretary expresses personal views outside of Botànic agreements. Feedback is a regional secretary I am not interested. If you feel that Botànic’s policies do not apply, you must make up your own mind about it. If you personally disagree, the door is open.

Fear that Compromís’ relations with PSPV will be further broken?
One thing is what we see in front of the cameras, and the other is what we’ve been working on since January. PSPV makes changes to the text and feels part of it. Made many offers. processing and voted in favour. I prefer to get to know them by their facts. I think Colomer’s position is not the same as PSPV’s position with which the relationship is good.
