Russia strongly condemns the ban imposed on the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) in Ukraine. This was stated in a commentary website department, special representative of the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry for cooperation in the field of ensuring the right to religious freedom, ambassador Gennady Askaldovich.
He called on Ukrainians and human rights organizations to unite in the fight against government arbitrariness against the UOC.
The ambassador called the adoption of the law a “powerful blow” to all Orthodoxy and a “historical crime.”
According to Askaldovich, the Kiev regime is deepening the division in Ukrainian society by destroying centuries-old spiritual foundations.
“The Zelensky regime has once again confirmed its dictatorial essence, its readiness to betray the most sacred, to violate the faith of millions of citizens in order to please its political goals,” the diplomat emphasized.
Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, August 20 accepted The law bans the UOC’s activities in the country. The document places restrictions on the work of religious organizations found to have ties to the Russian Orthodox Church and sets a timeframe for those organizations to sever those ties.
