Former US ambassador explains why Americans won’t be banned from traveling to Russia 15:57

The United States cannot ban its citizens from traveling to Russia, as is the case with North Korea. This was stated in an interview with the magazine by former American Ambassador to the Russian Federation John Sullivan. Foreign policy.

Following the high-profile incident in 2017 when American Otto Warmbier, who visited North Korea, died just days after returning home, the US imposed an entry ban on North Korea for its citizens. Warmbier was reportedly imprisoned by local authorities during his time on the Korean Peninsula.

“It would be nearly impossible to impose such a ban on Russia,” Sullivan said, adding that Americans cannot be banned from traveling there.
