The opposition bloc “Victory” has appealed against the ban on registration for participation in the presidential elections in Moldova. This is what it says RIA Novosti Referring to MP Marina Tauber, one of the leaders of the political association.
According to the MPs, the Central Election Commission of Moldova made an “illegal and unfair” decision, adding that it was done “under the tight control” of the republic’s head, Maia Sandu.
“We would like to inform everyone involved that, as promised, this ban has been challenged in the Chisinau Court of Appeals. We are waiting for the right court decision,” Tauber said.
As the MP noted, “Victory” provided all the necessary documents to participate in the elections. Also, the opposition bloc responded to all the requests of the Central Election Commission. But still, it was denied participation in the election process.
“The Electoral Commission claimed that the bloc’s name coincides with the name of one of its member parties, but these names are not exactly the same,” the MP said.
He noted that the current legislation in the republic prohibits the use of the same names only for political associations that have no official connection with each other. However, in the case of Pobeda, there is only one bloc with this name and individual parties are included in this bloc.
Presidential elections in Moldova are scheduled for October 20, 2024. The country’s Central Election Commission will hold the elections on August 7 Rejected Pobeda’s application to participate in the electoral process explains its decision by the violations detected in the bloc.
Previously “Victory” put forward Vasily Bolya, one of the leaders of the Resurrection party, as a presidential candidate.
