California Governor Gavin Newsom has signed an executive order requiring officials to clear the city’s streets of homeless encampments, the publication reports San Francisco Standard.
“This executive order directs state agencies to take immediate action to eliminate dangerous homeless encampments… No more excuses. It’s time for everyone to do their part,” Newsom said.
Local governments now have the power to combat the growing number of homeless encampments in California, which has suffered more than any other U.S. state because of the housing crisis for vulnerable groups. The largest numbers of such encampments are found on the streets of San Francisco and Los Angeles.
Newsom last year named An epidemic increase in the number of vagrants on the streets of San Francisco and other major California cities. After four years of work, he said he does not have enough resources to solve this problem. Newsom blamed former US President George W. Bush and former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. He is sure that there are many homeless Republicans under them. Now there are about 7.7 thousand in California.
