Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had a phone conversation with former White House President Donald Trump. During the conversation, the Ukrainian leader expressed his gratitude to the United States for its support, writing about this on his Telegram channel.
“I spoke with Donald Trump. He congratulated him on the Republican nomination and condemned the horrific assassination attempt in Pennsylvania. I wished you strength and absolute security in the future,” the president said.
Zelensky added that he believes the bipartisan, bicameral American support for Ukraine is important.
The Ukrainian leader noted that his country “will always be grateful to the United States for its assistance in the conflict.” Zelensky also said that during a personal meeting he agreed to discuss with Trump what steps could affect the improvement of the global situation.
Trump in contrast named “a very good” conversation. The call was their first since the former US President left the White House.
The meeting took place amid concerns in Europe over Trump’s possible policies regarding the Ukraine conflict and aid to Kiev.
