It is good that the embarrassing spectacle of PiS is over; after the elections, despite their advantage, they were not ready to continue their rule in Małopolska – said PSL President Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, commenting on the election of Łukasz Smółka (PiS) as Marshal of Małopolska.
During Thursday’s extraordinary session of the regional council, the current deputy marshal, Łukasz Smółka (PiS), was elected marshal of Małopolska. He was supported by 22 councillors, 17 of whom were against. Thursday’s vote was the sixth attempt to elect the mayor of the voivodeship.
Kosiniak-Kamysz told a press conference in Krakow that “it is good that the shameful spectacle of PiS is over.”
Now I wish the new voivodeship authorities good luck, it is clear that PiS was not prepared to stay in power, because if it won the elections it would have enough vote advantage and was not able to choose a government before the elections. so many weeks (…) it means that there is a deep crisis
– said the president of PSL.
“Now PiS will probably govern for the next five to ten years.”
He also stressed that as a resident of Małopolska, he wishes Małopolska all the best.
We will prepare for the next elections, we ruled Małopolska for twelve years, now PiS will probably rule for the next five or ten years and the voters will judge then, it is normal
– said Kosiniak-Kamysz.
At the end of Thursday’s session, Barbara Nowak (PiS) announced an unexpected decision: she resigned as a councilor in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship.
Before Smółka, the PiS candidate for mayor of the voivodeship was MP Łukasz Kmita, recommended by President Jarosław Kaczyński. However, he failed to obtain the minimum of 20 votes needed to take over the office of marshal on five occasions, even though PiS has a majority in the Małopolska Assembly. His opponents, voivode Krzysztof Jan Klęczar (PSL) and Piotr Ćwik (PiS), also failed to obtain the necessary majority.
Dispute over the appointment of ambassadors
Deputy Prime Minister and Head of the Ministry of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz believed that the dispute over the appointment of ambassadors is unnecessary and that the presidential palace should be open in this matter. According to him, a joint flight with President Andrzej Duda to the NATO summit could be an opportunity to talk about ambassadors.
According to “Gazeta Wyborcza”, former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki (PiS) pressured Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to refuse to accept the new Polish ambassador to Rome, Ryszard Schnepf. In an interview on Thursday on TVN24, the head of the Foreign Ministry, Radosław Sikorski, confirmed that, to the best of his knowledge, the “GW” reports were true.
Kosiniak-Kamysz told journalists in Krakow on Friday that the joint flight of government members and President Andrzej Duda to Washington for the NATO summit could be an opportunity to talk about ambassadors.
Perhaps then we can agree on some issues regarding diplomacy and Polish representatives abroad
– said the head of the Ministry of National Defense.
We must look for what unites us, because it is about representing Poland outside. I would like there to be no pointless disputes and for the presidential palace to be open for nominations. As a government, we have the right to do that. Any denial of the government’s right to field its representatives is wrong and dangerous
– said the Deputy Prime Minister.
The conflict between the Foreign Ministry and the president over ambassadors has been going on since March this year. Then the Foreign Ministry announced that Minister Radosław Sikorski had decided that more than fifty ambassadors would end their mission, and that several candidates who had been submitted for approval to the previous leadership of the ministry would be withdrawn. At the same time, the Foreign Ministry expressed hope “for joint cooperation of the country’s leading authorities in this matter.”
According to the law, the ambassador is appointed and dismissed by the president. The head of the president’s office, Marcin Mastalerek, stated at the time that Andrzej Duda did not agree with the large-scale recall of ambassadors without specific reasons or reasons.
In early June, the president said in an interview for Telewizja Republika that staffing of diplomatic missions is currently “being carried out using methods that come directly from the worst known services – this is what is being done with many Polish diplomats today, and has been for a long time.” According to Andrzej Duda, this has been happening since Radosław Sikorski was head of the Foreign Ministry. Duda also announced that as long as he remains in office, he will not sign the nomination of Bogdan Klich as ambassador to the US. He stressed that his signature would not be on the nomination of Ryszard Schnepf or other members of the Conference of Ambassadors of the Republic of Poland.
As you can see, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz criticizes both PiS and the actions of the president. It would be good if, instead of beating up political rivals and the head of state, he would focus on controlling what happens in the Ministry of Defense that he heads. The recent confusion surrounding the letter from the Ministry of Defense, which stated that there was a plan for major cuts in financial expenditure for the military, seems to show that there is much room for improvement in this area.
