“During the eight years of your rule, you have made people poorer. Shame on you for having the audacity to tell Poland that we govern badly,” Deputy Prime Minister Krzysztof Gawkowski said in the Sejm. Earlier, the head of the PiS club, Mariusz Błaszczak, called on the Sejm to consider the project “Stop energy increases from July”.
The head of the PiS club, Mariusz Błaszczak, submitted a motion to supplement the agenda with a citizens’ bill aimed at stopping gas and electricity price increases.
These increases are being prepared by Donald Tusk and his government. You said that analysis is going on, but there is no time for analysis. From Monday, gas prices will rise by more than 40% and electricity prices by more than 30%. At this meeting we can still maintain the current low energy prices
– said the politician. According to Błaszczak, hundreds of small businesses will go bankrupt if the bill is not worked on.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk has always ignored the needs of ordinary Poles and pushed Poland into poverty, but we can accept this project without him
– noted Mariusz Błaszczak. He also called on all parliamentarians “not to condemn Poland to poverty and entrepreneurs to bankruptcy.”
The project will not be processed before July
Marshal of the Sejm Szymon Hołownia announced that the Sejm will discuss the bill in July, during the next or subsequent session.
Citizenship projects during our time in office are not frozen, but are moving forward. (…) If you were pressed for time, you could have submitted this project earlier, because you knew what was coming for months. Everything will be in accordance with law, order and justice
– said Hołownia.
Gawkowski: PiS rule means inflation
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Affairs Krzysztof Gawkowski (left wing) emphasized in his response to Błaszczak that “8 years of PiS rule means a 40 percent increase in inflation.”
This is a 50% price increase for basic products. This is the expensive Polish Order, which has cost all Polish citizens and caused many Polish companies to go bankrupt
– the said politician. in his opinion, PiS acted against Polish companies and Polish citizens.
You did it in the most difficult time, during the crisis and the pandemic. You pursued politics for your own people and on your own. You have done everything you can to help those who benefit you today because they voted for you
– he addressed PiS MPs and added:
You are a political formation that should be ashamed of the eight-year rule that has led to Poles no longer living with dignity. You’ve made people poorer. Shame on you for having the audacity to come to this stage today and tell the Poles that we govern badly. The coalition government of October 15 is fixing this Poland, cleaning up after you and will continue to clean up after you for a long time
- says the minister.
The Minister of Climate and Environment, Paulina Hennig-Kloska (TD-Polska 2050), also commented on Błaszczak’s words. She asked the head of the PiS club why “the government that ruled Poland until December 13 last year.” In this year’s state budget, he has not included a single zloty for energy shields for citizens.
According to the minister, when the new government came to power, all it found in the settlement system was “a budget gap of PLN 8 billion and zero financial resources for coverage for this year.”
The action we took within the context of a difficult budget and budgetary constraints made possible the adoption of the law, which was signed by the President on June 7. Therefore, the protective shield for citizens continues to function in the second half of the year
– she emphasized.
Forecasts without new regulations
Hennig-Kloska said citizens received forecasts that did not take into account the new regulations. As she explained, forecasts that energy companies send out as standard often do not take into account the standards and regulations that have been introduced.
At the same time, the minister assured that these forecasts will be adjusted. She announced that she would contact energy companies and the Minister of State Assets about this as soon as possible.
The government did everything it could to protect citizens against price increases
– says the minister.
Price freeze only until the end of June
PiS has prepared a draft amendment to the laws to support consumers of electricity, gas and heat, aimed at expanding the protection mechanisms that will be active in the first half of 2024. The Legislative Initiative Committee “Stop price increases from July” was created and under this slogan PiS collected signatures in support of the project. On June 7, it was submitted to the Sejm as a citizens’ bill.
Until the end of June, electricity prices for eligible customers are frozen at PLN 412 per MWh and gas prices at PLN 200.17 per MWh.
The law adopted in May, aimed at limiting prices for electricity, natural gas and district heating, envisages the introduction of a maximum price for electricity in the period July-December 2024, at the level of PLN 500/MWh for households and at the level of PLN 693/MWh for local government units and public utilities, as well as for small and medium-sized enterprises. Households are exempt from the capacity fee, which is intended to further limit the expected increase in electricity bills from July 1.
In the case of gas, from July 1, the law eliminates the price freeze for customers at a rate of PLN 200.17 per MWh and introduces a maximum price equal to the rate of the largest retailer: PGNiG OD.
