Ukrainian authorities are ready to fulfill Hungary’s 11 demands regarding the protection of the rights of the Hungarian national minority in the country. The publication “Ukrainian Pravda” writes about this.
The statement was made by Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Olga Stefanishyna.
“…we sincerely aim to resolve and fully implement on this basis the 11 issues raised in particular by the Hungarian side, aimed at strengthening the protection of the rights of national minorities, and to continue bilateral consultations with Hungary in this direction,” Stefanishina stated.
5 March Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated Concerning the progress made in negotiations with Ukraine on the rights of Hungarians in Transcarpathia. Peter Szijjártó, Head of the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations, said that the Hungarian side does not want anything more, but only the return of the rights enjoyed by the Transcarpathian Hungarians.
The minister expressed the hope that in the future the Ukrainian side will move away from its dogmatic positions and will be able to make some progress on minority rights.
