PO’s Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz, who is running in the European Parliament elections, attacked NBP President Adam Glapiński. “He must be held accountable as soon as possible for breaking the law and violating the dignity and seriousness of the office,” the former Warsaw president said in a special interview for PAP. Gronkiewicz-Waltz remained silent for a long time when the Reprivatization Verification Commission began its work, but ultimately did not appear before it.
At the end of March, a motion was submitted by 191 MPs from the ruling coalition to have NBP President Adam Glapiński brought before the Court of Justice. He was accused of violating the constitution and laws, including: by indirectly financing the budget deficit as part of asset purchases in 2020-2021, i.e. when the pandemic was raging in Poland. The government subsequently rescued businesses and households by introducing further protective shields.
The procedure has started and should be continued. She’s very slow anyway
– said Gronkiewicz-Waltz, referring to the motion to summon the president of the NBP before the State Tribunal.
According to her, there must be an investigation into “all documents to which the judges of the State Tribunal have access” as soon as possible and a ruling must be reached.

Gronkiewicz-Waltz blames Glapiński for not speaking to PO
The former NBP president emphasized that there are no completely irremovable central bank governors.
Even in the case of the European Central Bank, which is a model of independence, it is clearly stated that if there is serious misconduct, the president can be dismissed
– noted the Civic Platform politician. However, she forgot that the President of the European Central Bank, Christine Lagarde, sent a letter to President Glapiński in early December last year.
Any measure that affects your ability to perform your duties as President of the National Bank of Poland may, if unlawful, violate your independence (…) Art. 14(1) 2 of the Statute of the European System of Central Banks and of the ECB, in order to guarantee the independence of the governors of the national central banks, guarantees their protection, especially in such cases
– wrote Christine Lagarde, President of the European Central Bank, to Adam Glapiński. But according to Gronkiewicz-Waltz, Glapiński broke the law by “behaving like a party member.”
A special piece of evidence is that he did not take other political options into account
– said the former president of Warsaw. according to her, bringing Glapiński before Gronkiewicz-Waltz before the State Tribunal would be a lesson for future presidents.
I think this is a lesson for other presidents: not to fraternize with the government. Violating independence also means being too obedient to the government
– she said, stating that an amendment to the law on the National Bank of Poland is necessary.
I believe that the law on the NBP should be amended – as in the case of the ECB – so that there is a single eight-year term.
– said a politician from the Civic Platform.
I don’t think it’s a secret to anyone anymore that the attack on the President of the National Bank of Poland, Adam Glapiński, who led the zloty through the biggest turmoil of Covid and then through inflation due to the war in Ukraine, from is a large size. purely political nature. All predictions and assumptions, previously ridiculed by ‘experts’, came true, and Poland recorded a dramatic drop in inflation. Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz, like Marek Belka or Ryszard Petru, attacks Adam Glapiński to replace him as soon as possible with someone who will have a different attitude towards the introduction of the euro in Poland. However, Poland’s public finances are currently in a much better condition than those of the eurozone countries. Apart from Estonia, none of them meet the debt-to-GDP requirements. It is not difficult to guess who in such a situation will benefit most from the introduction of the euro in Poland, because it is certainly not us.
