“Today we are witnessing a major dispute over the future shape of the European Union. There are disturbing trends towards federalization and talk of changes to treaties that will limit the sovereignty of member states. Our presence in the European Union is Poland’s raison d’etre, but we support a Europe of free nations! Europe of the homelands!” – said President Andrzej Duda in a message on the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of Poland’s accession to the European Union.
Twenty years ago we became a member of the European Union. May 1, 2004 was a very good day for Poland. Several generations dreamed of returning to the political community of the Western world, a united Europe, and this has become our common destiny. 20 years of our presence in the EU is a great success for all of us! Thousands of investments, excellent use of European funds, expansion of Polish companies in Europe. Just look around at how Poland has changed during this time. We have made good use of this period
– said President Duda in his speech.
“We need big, strategic investments like CPK.
We are ambitious, we want to develop further. We need major, strategic investments, such as the Central Communication Port, so that we can join the richest countries in Europe even faster.
– he pointed out.
Poland and the European Union face many security and economic challenges. Our future depends on how we answer them. As a member of the EU, we can influence its shape and determine important directions. Our voice matters. That is why we must fight every day for Polish issues in the European Union!
– said the president. Andrzej Duda quoted Saint. John Paul II.
Our great compatriot, Pope John Paul II, said to us: “Europe needs Poland, and Poland needs Europe.” These words are still relevant. Therefore, we must actively participate in shaping the Community, in accordance with the values we have shared for more than a thousand years. From the moment we joined the family of Christian nations in Europe
– he emphasized.
“There are disturbing trends towards federalization.
Today we are witnessing a major dispute over the future shape of the European Union. There are disturbing trends towards federalization and talk of changes to treaties that will limit the sovereignty of member states. Our presence in the European Union is Poland’s raison d’etre, but we support a Europe of free nations! Europe of the homelands!
– he pointed out.
The President recalled the struggle for Polish interests taking place in the EU.
We know that politicians and EU officials can sometimes be a difficult partner – we have seen that many times in recent years. The interests of the EU bureaucracy and some Member States sometimes conflict with Polish interests. There is a fight every day in the EU, a hard fight for the interests of individual countries, and it must be waged effectively. That is why the European Parliament elections, which will take place on 9 June, will be so important. The direction the EU will take and how Polish affairs will be handled in the EU will depend on which representatives we elect. I encourage you to participate in these elections
– he said.
Our presence in the European Union is part of our great history. The history of Poland, the history of freedom. Today, Poland is safe, developing dynamically and has good prospects, but our history teaches us that nothing is given once and for all. Therefore, we must constantly strive for the prosperity and good future of our homeland
– he emphasized.
This is our great commitment, born from great historical moments. We are proud of our history and what unites all generations of Poles are our national symbols. During this May holiday, let’s all come together in Biało-Czerwona! Long live Poland!
– concludes the President’s speech.
