Former Prime Minister Marek Belka will become the leader of the New Left in the European Parliament elections in the Łódź region. MP Paulina Matysiak and local activists from the region will also run for the EP seat.
The New Left candidates for the European Parliament in Łódź Voivodeship constituency No. 6 were presented at the press conference in Łódź on Tuesday.
Another Belka candidacy
The leader of the list was former President of the National Bank of Poland Marek Belka, who was running for re-election. Five years ago, he was elected to the European Parliament from first place on the Civic Coalition’s list. He then achieved more than 182,000. votes and won one of the three seats from the Łódź district.
These are important elections, perhaps more important than ever because the EU is under pressure from the brown wave that wants to disarm it and make it less important. Meanwhile, we need to be together in Europe today because of the threat from Russia
– Belka admitted.
In second place is MP Paulina Matysiak. The following positions are occupied by local activists from the region: Iwona Kaźmierska-Małyska, Oskar Kuliński, Agnieszka Luksztejdt, Zbigniew Krasiński, Małgorzata Powązka, Mateusz Osiecki, Agnieszka Smoręda of the Razem Party and Mateusz Pietras.
I will lead a great team. The great thing is that this list contains people from specific parts of our Voivodeship. These are people who are known and respected there, which gives hope for a good result
– Belka emphasized.
Postulates of the New Left
Matysiak encouraged people to vote for the candidates of the New Left, which – as she said – went to the elections with a clear, distinct and transparent program.
We go to the elections and demand the launch of a European housing fund. We know what a serious problem this is in Poland: how many young people cannot afford an apartment. We can use EU funds for this
– she said.
The parliamentarian added that she also wants to deal with transport issues so that we can travel across the continent easily and quickly thanks to railway investments. She emphasized that security and defense issues are also very important in the New Left’s program.
Belka pointed out that the main demands for the new term are solving the migration problem and the Green Deal.
There are many issues like this, including issues that directly affect us in the province. Łódź, and which is co-decided in the European Parliament. So let us regard these elections as a very important test of democracy and our responsibility. That is why I call on you: let us vote for those who clearly support the EU and deeper integration, that is, the left.
– appealed against the former head of the Polish government.
We are going to the European Union so that integration becomes even greater, Poland’s security is guaranteed and money comes from the EU for Poland. Because today, on the eve of the twentieth anniversary of Poland’s accession to the EU, it must be said very clearly that it was the left that concluded the negotiations and signed the instrument of accession to the European community.
– said Tomasz Trela, MP and head of the New Left in the Łódź region.
The European Parliament elections will take place in Poland on June 9. Poland will elect 53 parliamentarians.
