In addition to EKR co-chair Ryszard Legutko, Beata Mazurek, Elżbieta Kruk and Grzegorz Tobiszowski will no longer stand as candidates among the current PiS members. The start was confirmed by Anna Fotyga and Patryk Jaki.
I have decided to run for office precisely because these are such terribly difficult times in my field, i.e. security, geopolitics and foreign policy.
– PiS MEP and former head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Anna Fotyga told journalists on Tuesday at the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
Patryk Jaki confirmed his candidacy for PAP. The former deputy head of the Ministry of Justice did not specify from which constituency he would run, but PAP information shows that he will get a seat, that is, one that guarantees a mandate. Beata Kempa is expected to take second place on behalf of Sovereign Poland, although she has not yet officially confirmed her participation in an interview with PAP.
Who do we not see in the European Parliament?
According to PAP information, there will no longer be a place on the Law and Justice lists for some current Members of the European Parliament, including: Beata Mazurek, Elżbieta Kruk, Grzegorz Tobiszowski and Andżelika Możdżanowska.
Ryszard Legutko, co-chair of the European Conservatives and Reformists group and former head of the PiS delegation in the European Parliament, who was replaced by Dominik Tarczyński in February this year, will also not stand as a candidate.
This is my decision. No one took it for me
– Legutko assured in an interview with PAP. The media previously reported that his resignation was the result of an intra-party conflict over the direction the party should take before the European Parliament elections.
Leave politics
Another PiS member, Tomasz Poręba, also announced his resignation from active politics, including his candidacy for the European Parliament.
I leave with my head held high and the feeling that we have achieved a lot together in recent years
– he wrote on social media on Monday.
The PiS Political Committee must approve the lists for the EP elections next Thursday. In 2019, Law and Justice won 27 seats.
