Prime Minister Donald Tusk was asked at a press conference about the president’s doubts about Poland’s accession to the German project for the so-called iron dome. In response, Tusk attacked the head of state.
President Andrzej Duda said building an “iron dome” over Europe is a German business project, and Poland has been building its air defense system mainly based on the Patriot system for years.
I don’t know where you are talking about the president’s doubts, because for me it doesn’t matter who has what business in the field of weapons or defense, what matters to me is when Poland will be more secure
– he said Donald Tuskand then proceeded to attack the head of state.
I would rather hear from the President why he tolerated or pretended not to see what happened during these seven years with the complete collapse of the Polish army’s preparation in case of war. We are not talking about the past few months, but about almost 10 years. In my opinion, it would be better especially for the president to try to help in this matter, because he is partly responsible for what happened, especially during Macierewicz’s time. No one has done so much damage to Poland in terms of security, trust of allies, NATO, Americans, French, Germans, name whoever you want. Frankly, it’s a shame the president didn’t make any cautionary speeches back then
– said the Prime Minister.
There should be consensus and agreement on these matters in Poland. A lot of time has been wasted, we have a lot of ground to make up, but we have to work together. Please ask the President this question, whether he is really convinced or well informed when he speaks about these matters. I asked both the generals and Minister Siewiera directly how they assessed the validity of my initial decision to allow Poland to join the European Air Shield, not as an alternative to anything, but as a complement. Anyone who can help us protect Polish airspace will be treated by me as a potential ally and partner
– he pointed out. Tusk presented the response of the guests at the government meeting to Poland’s proposal to participate in the construction of the “Iron Dome”.
Minister Siewier, the representative of the President, and both generals clearly confirmed that it is a pity that a positive decision was not taken earlier to participate in the European Sky Shield and that it is absolutely possible if it is a part and not an alternative .
– said the Prime Minister.
No one is talking about giving up what we are doing right now. (…) I count on the president’s cooperation in this
– he pointed out.
Donald Tusk spoke about cooperation with the head of state on the one hand and attacked the president on the other. The message from the PO leader was – not for the first time – completely inconsistent.
Tusk over Pegasus
Prime Minister Donald Tusk assured that in any case where it is proven that the actions of the previous government are unlawful or harmful to the interests and reputation of a specific person, action will be taken by the prosecutor’s office. He thus addressed the question about the Pegasus system.
In information provided to the Sejm and Senate, Attorney General Adam Bodnar said on Tuesday that in the years 2017-2022, operational control using the Pegasus system affected 578 people. Former head of the Ministry of the Interior and Administration Mariusz Kamiński assured the press conference on Tuesday that “all requests were carried out with the permission of the court.”
Tusk, referring to this information at Tuesday’s press conference, recalled that “not so much time passed when PiS leaders from the top said that there was no Pegasus, that they did not even know what the name meant.”
Therefore, I would not worry about the opinions of those who used various equipment, not only Pegasus, operational against people, including opposition leaders
– said the Prime Minister.
Judge for yourself whether the use of this advanced, anti-terrorist tool, which was Pegasus, i.e. the possibility of surveillance, 24-hour monitoring, insertion of foreign content into mobile phones and computers, was against the Brejza couple, and Krzysztof Brejza the head was part of the Civic Coalition’s election campaign at the time. It’s not even a question of legality and illegality
– said the head of the government.
As he noted: “We know of regimes in the history of Europe and the world that have taken great care to ensure the legality of their fundamentally illegal actions.”
Do you know how legalistic Stalin tried to be? There was paper for everything. So I do not accept the comments of those PiS members who claim that eavesdropping, the hiring of detective agencies to monitor opposition MPs, the use of listening devices, was legal and okay.
– Tusk emphasized.
He said that if this were the case, “they would have admitted it from the start, not lied and not denied it with shaking hands in front of the cameras.”
In any case where the action of that authority is proven to be unlawful or detrimental to the interests and reputation of a specific person, the action will also be the subject of action by the Public Prosecution Service.
– Tusk insured.
Also on Tuesday, Kamiński announced at an earlier press conference that he and Maciej Wąsik had received a summons at the prosecutor’s office for next Thursday. According to Kamiński, they will be charged with illegal participation in the votes in the Sejm.
We regard these actions by the Public Prosecution Service as active involvement in the fight against opposition in our country
– he assessed.
The head of government said at a press conference that he did not know in which case Mariusz Kamiński and Maciej Wąsik were summoned to the prosecutor’s office.
There is no point in holding hysterical press conferences. After all, they are tough people, they know well what they have done and they know well what they will be responsible for
– said Tusk.
“We are happy with the first tranche”
Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced during Tuesday’s conference that the government is doing everything it can to ensure that the KPO funds are spent on time, and if this is not possible, they will not be lost. Tusk emphasized that the previous government team was responsible for the two-year delay in implementing the KPO.
KPO is a process, there are countries that have already spent a very solid percentage, and we are happy with the first tranche
– pointed to Donald Tusk. He added that it was necessary to renegotiate some points in the document drawn up by the previous government because fragments of it were “dangerous for citizens.”
The Prime Minister admitted that the timely implementation of the KPO would be very difficult due to a two-year delay.
It is one thing to release and obtain these funds – we have done it, and another thing is to spend them wisely in three times less time than other countries have at their disposal.
– he emphasized.
I will also do everything possible, together with the new Commission, to ensure that – if we fail (…) to spend these funds on time, they are not wasted, because at the moment this is our Polish funds are.
– added.
The Prime Minister also commented on the accusations of PiS representatives that funds from the KPO for Poland were blocked by Brussels for political reasons.
It was a political blockade of funds, prepared by those making accusations today. (…) They have caused double the damage to all of us in Poland. The rule of law has been taken away from us and valuable time and billions may be lost
– Tusk noted, noting that 100 percent “Prime Minister Morawiecki, President Kaczyński and the entire team are personally responsible for the delay.”
