Vote on abortion
On Friday, the Sejm returns to the debate on four bills to amend the anti-abortion law; projects were submitted by: KO, Lewica and Trzecia Droga. Marshal of the Sejm Szymon Hołownia announced that if parliamentarians decide to refer these projects to an extraordinary committee, the Sejm will appoint such a committee on Friday.
If this is the decision of the Sejm expressed during the votes on Friday, this committee will be appointed immediately during the votes on Friday.
– said Hołownia.
Last November, the left submitted two bills to liberalize abortion regulations. One of them partially decriminalizes abortion and its assistance, the other allows termination of pregnancy until the end of the twelfth week of its duration.
End of January this year. A project by a group of MPs from the Civic Coalition parliamentary club was submitted to the Sejm. It is assumed that a pregnant person is entitled to health care in the form of termination of pregnancy during the first twelve weeks of pregnancy.
In addition to these projects, Trzecia Droga (PSL and Polska 2050) submitted a bill to the Sejm at the end of February that reverses the Constitutional Court’s 2020 ruling on abortion regulations. TD politicians also announced a proposal for a referendum on this issue.
The Constitutional Tribunal has clearly ruled several times that abortion on demand is unconstitutional today. Legally, there is no such thing as the right to abortion. According to Polish law, a child in the womb is a person legally protected from the moment of conception, and killing it is punishable. Only in special cases will the law exclude this offense from being punishable.
