The platform aims to reach an agreement on the migration pact and will eventually be used without qualms to relocate illegal migrants, PiS MEP Dominik Tarczyński said in comments for PAP. The European Parliament adopted the pact in Wednesday’s vote, which was opposed by both the PO and PiS.
We were, are and will be against the migration pact. We are against this madness. We are not in favor of negotiating any other form of it. We are in favor of rejecting this solution entirely. That’s how it was in 2015 and that’s how it will be in 2024.
– Tarczyński emphasized.
The difference between us and the Platform is that they want to negotiate and reach an agreement with the EU, thus legitimizing a fundamentally harmful idea and taking some responsibility. We say a categorical “veto” and “no” to this solution. The platform assumes that their willingness to compromise will be reciprocated. Well, experience says something completely different. They will be used without regret to relocate illegal migrants
– adds the Polish politician, explaining that this is why the entire PiS delegation in the European Parliament voted against the regulations governing the so-called migration pact.
To vote
Referring to the comment of PO member Andrzej Halicki, who said in an interview with PAP that “the package was negotiated by the PiS government, which was apparently unable to find solutions favorable to Poland”, Tarczyński said:
It is absurd to look for PiS’s guilt everywhere. Some people from the Platform’s lists voted in favor of the migration pact. They say one thing and do another. They look for ways to divert attention to their own voting behavior.
In total, the EP voted on Wednesday on ten pieces of legislation included in the Migration Pact. They were all accepted.
The reform was proposed by the European Commission in 2016, but was blocked by some member states due to the proposed forced relocation. The EP voted on the new version initially agreed with the EU Council in December 2023 and presented by the EC in 2021.
The most controversial was the so-called voluntary solidarity mechanism, which requires the deployment of at least 30,000 people per year. people. Member States can alternatively pay PLN 20,000. euros for each person who is not admitted to or participates in operations at the Union’s external borders.
The migration pact will still have to be accepted by the EU Council, where the member states are represented. The Polish government voted against because – as the Ministry of the Interior and Administrative Affairs argues – work on the regulations ended a week after the swearing-in of the current government, and the result of this work, carried out by the previous team, is “far from Enough”.
