Former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, referring to the Supreme Court of Audit’s allegations regarding the purchase of personal protective equipment in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic, stated that he took full responsibility in this matter. “I have asked everyone who can, wherever they can, to buy what will save the lives of Poles,” he emphasized. “I believe that even if such an embarrassing application is submitted to the Public Prosecution Service, the Public Prosecution Service will be able to look at the entire context of the COVID-19 tragedy that was unfolding at that time,” he added to.
To save lives
The former Prime Minister was asked during the press conference about the planned notification by the Supreme Court of Auditors to the public prosecutor’s office on Wednesday against people who directly participated in the process of purchasing personal protective equipment in connection with the fight against COVID-19. This includes: about Mateusz Morawiecki and Jacek Sasin.
The Supreme Court of Auditors presented the results of the inspection regarding the purchase of personal protective equipment in connection with the fight against COVID-19. This shows that the Prime Minister’s Office spent almost PLN 200 million uneconomically, unreliably and unintentionally in the period 2020-2021.

Referring to the issue – as he noted – of the purchases that his government tried to make around the world at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, the former Prime Minister recalled the difficulties associated with its enormous size.
Human memory is sometimes unreliable. February, March, April 2020. The COVID-19 pandemic breaks out. All markets around the world are dying. There is no liquidity, there is no supply, there is no demand. Everyone is focused on one thing. Where you can get masks, where you can get physical protective equipment, where you can get different medical supplies, medical products like respirators. For what? To save lives
– emphasized the former Prime Minister.
And I take all the responsibility on myself, because I asked everyone who can, wherever they can, to buy what saves the lives of Poles.
– Morawiecki noted.
Therefore, I believe that even if such an embarrassing application is submitted to the Public Prosecution Service, the Public Prosecution Service will be able to look at the entire context of the COVID-19 tragedy that was unfolding at that time. Even if he is unable to do so and takes the matter to court, the court will have enough common sense and fairness to look at what was happening around the world at the time, in Europe and in Poland.
– said the politician.
He also added that if the prosecutor’s office and the court do not accept these arguments, he will still be “happy and proud that our government responded quickly.”
He responded as we should have responded, we behaved appropriately
– Morawiecki emphasized.

We distributed the money fairly
The former Prime Minister was also asked about the financing of local government in recent years. He replied that in this case the fund restored dignity to the vast majority of Polish municipalities and provinces.
Just travel around Poland, go outside Warsaw, beyond the outskirts of Warsaw and ask about roads, community centers, volunteer fire brigades, schools, hospitals, daycare centers, all elements of public infrastructure. What did the investments look like during the previous coalition for our government and over the past five years
– Morawiecki calculated.
We distributed these funds fairly according to algorithms, according to certain rules that were objectively announced before the recruitment
– he emphasized, also pointing out that more than 99% of companies benefited from strategic investment programs. local governments.
In our programs we have tried to ensure that they do not go to big cities, to rich metropolises or to rich provinces, as in the case of EU funds, but we have tried to ensure that this program was distributed fairly (.. .) If anyone wants to contact the prosecutor’s office with this program, let him do so
– added Morawiecki.
