National, economic and personal freedom, as well as the religious freedom, which we have enjoyed since the fall of real socialism, has been consistently taken away from us.. While the scope of freedom and independence expanded at the end of the Polish People’s Republic, it has been shrinking for more than two decades. This is the greatest paradox. The European Union with the power of its bureaucracy is as dangerous a threat to us as the totalitarian tendencies of the communist fixers and improvers of the world.
There are very different forces acting on Poland, the strength of which is sometimes surprising. Global markets, financial elites, hostile states. However, this is the life of nations and this is what politics looks like. But passively observing events makes us an object and subject of manipulation, not its subject.
Therefore, only joint actions will allow us to defend Poland, independence and our freedom. Freedom of speech, which left-liberal governments across the Western world consistently restrict, also creates something that some intellectuals call “totalitarianism without the gulag.” If in communist times we could be one of the “happiest barracks” in the Soviet camp, let us remain so in times of liberal despotism. I and my colleagues from the editorial staff of “Sieci” often write about this topic.
So if any of you are reading this text, you are certainly aware of what is happening around us. Sometimes we hear that “it’s all good” and there is a lot of truth in these words and this belief. But there is no reason to give in to the fatalism of events. This is also the mission of our newspaper and the entire project in which we confidently participate. Buy our weekly print and especially digital versions and encourage others, friends and family to do so. You buy and subscribe, and because of that we exist and operate. Only together will we defend our freedom!
And besides, I think, and you probably do too, that Tusk should go!
