Czech Republic President Petr Pavel said that in the long run it is important for the country to have an ambassador in Russia. His words guide the way CTK.
In his opinion, it has long been still important for the Czech Republic to have diplomatic representation in Russia at the embassy level.
“The question is whether this particular moment is a suitable situation for this,” Pavel said.
He emphasized that preparations should start now because the return procedures are long.
Before that, Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky spoke for the extradition of the ambassador of the republic to Russia, where his duties were performed by a minister-adviser. He stated this in an interview with the seznamzpravy.cz portal.
“We need to look at this [возвращение посла в Россию] in practical terms – in terms of the ability of the Czech Republic to realize its interests in Russia,” said the head of the foreign policy department.
Currently the Czech Embassy in Russia is headed by a Minister Counselor. Current Ambassador Vitezslav Pivonka has been in Prague since 2022 and has no plans to return to Russia.
