It was not decided to shoot down the missile
This situation was raised during a briefing on Sunday morning by the spokesperson of the Operational Command of the Armed Forces, Lieutenant Colonel. Jacek Goryszewski.
In the case of this missile, there was no decision, there was no permission to shoot it down. The main reason for this was that we knew what the flight path was, and furthermore, this missile was only in our space for a very short time and not within the range of our military land-based firearms. So there was no way we were going to get shot here. There was also no question of our fighters making any intervention, as it did not penetrate deeply into the territory of our country.
– said Lieutenant Colonel Goryszewski.
He said that the Russian missile was moving over Poland at a speed of almost 800 km/h and at an altitude of 400 m. The missile was tracked by radar the entire time it was in our space, he pointed out.
We knew its trajectory and direction, and we expected where it would leave our space. The safety of our airspace was guaranteed as much as possible. We are continuously monitoring the situation in Ukraine. For now, I assure you that our space is safe, there are no more attacks on targets in Ukraine
– summarized Lieutenant Colonel Goryszewski, adding: “our fighters have already returned to bases, our systems have returned to their operational activities, but the Polish army is constantly monitoring the situation and everything is under control.
The lieutenant colonel admitted that the long-range aviation of the Russian Federation was active from the early morning hours, as Tu 95 aircraft took off from Russian airports around 2 a.m. At least thirteen aircraft fired cruise missiles towards Ukraine. The spokesperson added that the Polish command knew that some of these missiles could be targeted at the regions of Ukraine bordering our country, which is why Polish and allied aircraft were captured.
