The terrorist group Al Qaeda (an organization banned in Russia) attempted to assassinate Bill Clinton in 1996 while he was serving as US President. This was reported by Reuters Citing data from US Secret Service agents.

Clinton came to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit held in Manila, the capital of the Philippines. Before the plane carrying the president landed, the security service received information that there were explosives on the route of Clinton’s motorcade. Later, Philippine intelligence services defused the explosive itself and found a jeep with a machine gun inside.
