I appeal to common sense, because the financial stability of Poland and the stability of Poland’s position on international financial markets are of absolutely paramount importance, said President Andrzej Duda, when asked by Telewizja wPolska journalist Żaklina Skowrońska to the announcement to appoint the head of the NBP: Adam Glapiński, for the State Tribunal.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk said on Tuesday that the motion to summon National Bank of Poland President Adam Glapiński to the State Tribunal is ready and will be submitted in the coming days. Submitting such an application was one of the elements of the “100 specifics for 100 days” program announced by the Civic Coalition before the elections. The current ruling majority accuses Glapiński, among other things, of involvement in political activities before the last parliamentary elections, as well as misleading information about the central bank’s financial results for 2023.
President Andrzej Duda, asked about this announcement by editor Żaklina Skowrońska during his visit to Slovenia, said that, to his knowledge, such an initiative has not been submitted to the Sejm and “I hope that will not be the case either. ”
It will certainly not affect Poland’s position in the financial and international arena or on the international financial markets; it will certainly not improve Poland’s position and situation
– said the president.
As he added, there is always a “stumble” when you try to somehow remove the head of the central bank.
Even more so if you try to remove the head of the central bank, under whose rule it was possible not only to survive the very difficult time of the coronavirus pandemic, but also to survive the very difficult time of crises related to the Russian attack on Ukraine and the unrest they caused, even problems with the energy market or inflation
– said Duda.
He noted that inflation in Poland had been “highly suppressed” even though it had been announced that “an absolute catastrophe” would occur.
No catastrophe occurred and it happened partly thanks to the wise, reasonable policies of the head of the central bank, President Glapiński and the Monetary Policy Council
– said the president.
In connection with the above, I appeal to our common sense, because the financial stability of Poland and the stability of Poland’s position on the international financial markets are of absolutely primary importance – if we want to continue implementing the effective economic growth policies that has been conducted in recent years. year.
– Duda emphasized.
Farmers’ protests
The journalist from Telewizja wPoland also asked President Duda and Slovenian President Natasha Pirc Musar about the problems of farmers in the context of the protests taking place in Poland today.
Peasant protests should be taken very seriously, Polish and Ukrainian farmers should have the same conditions. Currently, Ukrainian farmers have better conditions
– said the President of Slovenia, Natasha Pirc Musar. She added that this is a topic that needs to be discussed, especially in the context of the risk of disrupting supply chains.
Yesterday I informed the Prime Minister about the Slovenian food sovereignty system. We have analyzed what steps need to be taken
– she said.
As part of the EU we will have to adapt to new situations
– she added.
Europe has suffered from hunger before and we don’t want it to happen again
– she admitted. She emphasized that we need to look at what climate change brings and listen to farmers.
I understand Polish farmers and as President of Slovenia I would of course like all farmers on the European market to have the same conditions. If Ukraine wants to become a member of the EU, farmers will of course also have to accept the conditions as they are
– she said.
Poland is a food self-sufficient country, which means that our farmers in our country produce enough food to meet all our needs. (…) Today, the opening of the borders to food from Ukraine and the war crisis caused by Russia in Ukraine (…) have led to a crisis situation
– said President Duda in turn.
In a sense, unfortunately, it is normal that when someone wants to sell his goods, he tries to sell them in a difficult situation as quickly and as close as possible, at the lowest possible cost. Such a sale was possible just across the border in Poland, which caused a major decline in our food market, caused huge changes in the prices of food products and agricultural products in Poland and, of course, put many farmers at risk. It’s hard not to express sympathy for them here
– added.
The President also mentioned the second major issue for farmers, namely the adverse changes in agriculture that would be introduced as part of the Green Deal.
The second problem that overlaps with this is pan-European farmer protests (…) against the Green Deal policy and European solutions in this area, farmers are demanding their adaptation and change. This is another element that authorities at European level must take into account. It is difficult not to take into account these demands of farmers and their concerns. I believe they absolutely deserve to be taken into account
– he said.
The obligation to represent the interests of Polish farmers is an absolute obligation of the Polish authorities, regardless of the situation at European level, or even regardless of the political situation at national level.
– he pointed out.
