Even if President Andrzej Duda vetoes the bill, the abortion pill “PO Day” will be introduced from May 1 – such a statement was made by the Minister of Health, Izabela Leszczyna, on Polsat News. “It will be available by pharmaceutical prescription, I have a regulation ready,” Leszczyna said. Referring to questions about the “magic wand”, she said that “it worked” because Tusk went to Brussels and said “we are doing it”.
Izabela Leszczyna announced that she would bypass President Andrzej Duda’s objection to the morning-after abortion pill. She said she had a contingency plan if the president vetoed the bill to make the pill available without a prescription to people over 15. According to the president, the pill should still be available by prescription, and in the case of girls, taking it should be a “parental decision.”
Like I said, the president has his own time to sign the bill. Without any political insult, I appeal to the President: do not let him oppose Polish women and Polish girls
– said Leszczyna, adding that in her opinion the pill is neither a “hormone bomb nor harmful”, as President Andrzej Duda said. As mentioned, the abortion pill ‘PO day’ will be available from May 1.
This concerns a regulation that regulates this subject, it concerns regulations for pharmacists, the tablet will be available from May 1
– stated the Minister of Health.
The amendment to the pharmaceutical law, which provides for the availability of one of the hormonal contraceptives – ulipristal acetate – for people over 15 years old, was adopted by the Senate without amendments on March 6. The law was sent to the president, who has 21 days to sign the law, veto it or refer it to the Constitutional Court.

The government is not working on a draft abortion law
Leszczyna revealed that the government is not working on the “liberalization of abortion laws.”
The Prime Minister decided that if there is no agreement on this subject within the coalition, the government will not table bills on which there is no consensus.
– said the Civic Platform MP, adding that rules are being developed that force doctors to perform abortions, practically against the conscience clause.
We are working on a regulation that will include the terms and conditions of contracts with medical entities that provide healthcare services. It will contain a provision that if you have a contract with the National Health Fund for services in the context of gynecological and obstetric hospitalization, you cannot refuse to terminate a woman’s pregnancy in cases permitted by Polish law.
– emphasized the head of the Ministry of Health. However, she had little to say about changes in health insurance premiums, which the government is reportedly also working on. She praised the fact that the in vitro program will come into effect on June 1 and will create a list of hospitals where women will always receive perinatal anesthesia.

The myth of the magic wand
Leszczyna was also asked about her words about the “magic wand” that can regulate everything in Poland, especially KPO funds.
The magic wand has worked, we have unlocked billions of euros from Europe. This was Donald Tusk’s magic wand, who went and said with his credibility: “we’ll do it”. Min. Bodnar followed the rule of law path, which was accepted by the European Commission
– said Leszczyna, referring to her pre-election announcements about the express release of funds from the KPO.
On the Internet you can find a funny compilation of Leszczyna’s statements, in which the “magic wand” argument is “used”. First, he claims that after winning the elections everything will change in an instant, but after Tusk’s government is formed, he comes to the conclusion that this is not possible.
It’s impossible to magically change everything at once, even if I wanted to
– she already said as a minister, in the context of problems with Polish healthcare.
It is worth specifying that the European Commission has only given a preliminary, positive assessment of the first Polish application for payments from the Reconstruction Fund. It only concerns the payment of 6.3 billion euros. The money should reach Poland in the coming weeks.
