“It is not the president who conducts foreign policy,” said Paweł Kowal of KO in the program “Woronicza 17”. His opinion, expressed about the ambassadors whom Radosław Sikorski had recalled without the president’s consent, was criticized on social media by PiS’s Marcin Przydacz. The former deputy head of Polish diplomacy reminded Kowal how he defended the rights of President Lech Kaczyński on the same issue during the rule of the PO-PSL coalition.
On neo-TVP, KO’s Paweł Kowal defended the decision of Sikorski, who, without asking President Andrzej Duda’s opinion, decided on the mass dismissal of 50 ambassadors.
The president confers professorships but is not the principal of all professors, appoints judges but is not their boss, appoints and dismisses ambassadors but is not their superior, is not the government, and it is not the president who conducts foreign policy. Simple things
– Kowal said in the program “Woronicza 17”.

A blacksmith used to do the opposite
Former Deputy Foreign Minister Marcin Przydacz responded to MP Kowal’s words, reminding him of his own words several years ago when he said the exact opposite.
How it changes in life. Paweł Kowal once defended the powers of the President of the Republic of Poland regarding the appointment of ambassadors. At that time he was minister of Lech Kaczyński, today he is in a different place. But the constitution is the same
— wrote Marcin Przydacz on the X platform.
Przydacz included in the submission information from a decade ago that the president was bypassed in the process for reviewing ambassadorial candidates.
Radio TOK FM reported on Wednesday, citing unofficial sources, that Lech Kaczyński signed several nominations for ambassadors on November 15, and just a day later the Sejm Foreign Affairs Committee received a letter asking for advice on their candidacies. According to the radio, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs would hear about the matter later, six weeks after the date of nomination
— the former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs recalled the situation.
A similar situation occurred in 2008, when the Sejm Foreign Affairs Committee gave a positive opinion to three candidates for ambassadors, disregarding the president’s opinions in the procedure. No candidates were presented to President Lech Kaczyński. The media then quoted the words of Paweł Kowal, who stated that the opposition (then PiS) did not have the opportunity to speak freely in the committee. He also added that this is an unacceptable and bad precedent.
