Belarus’ entry into the SCO may be approved at the summit in Astana. This was stated by SCO General Secretary Zhang Ming. His words guide the way RIA News.

“From the moment this decision is taken, Belarus will have the right to participate in meetings and mechanisms within the organization as a full member,” the Chinese diplomat said.

According to Zhang, Belarus has fulfilled all its obligations under the 2023 memorandum on the conditions for joining the SCO in February 2024.

Before that, Bakhtiyor Khakimov, special representative of the Russian President for SCO affairs announced The SCO summit will be held in Astana on July 3-4.

The SCO was established in Shanghai on June 15, 2001. Pakistan and India also joined the organization, which has included Russia, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan since its establishment, in 2017. Although Iran has been an SCO observer since 2005, it became the ninth member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization on July 4, 2023. The late entry is explained by the inability to join international organizations due to UN sanctions until 2016.
