During this period of the Sejm, abortion will be safe, free and legal until the twelfth week of pregnancy – Katarzyna Kotula and Agnieszka Dziemianowicz-Bąk said confidently at the Left Convention. There were many words of criticism directed at… the chairman of the Sejm, Szymon Hołownia.
During the left-wing election convention, Equality Minister Katarzyna Kotula declared that Sejm Chairman Szymon Hołownia – by deciding that abortion laws would be discussed in the Sejm on April 11, just after the first round of local elections – had stolen the women’s holiday. , Women’s Day.
Kotula recalled that on the first day of the new term of the Sejm, the left introduced two bills on abortion: a law decriminalizing abortion and liberalizing abortion law.
And then a sad man came and said: not now, that we are radical, that this is not a good time, that these are not good emotions. We will not give up and we will complete the liberalization of abortion laws this term
– she assured the supporters of her party.

Local elections? The left talks about abortion anyway
According to the minister, April’s local elections will be about women’s right to decide about their health, bodies and lives. She added that the left-wing lists will include candidates who will protect women’s rights in local governments across Poland.
Agnieszka Dziemianowicz-Bąk, the Minister of Family, Labor and Social Policy, also stated that abortion this semester will be safe, free and legal until the twelfth week of pregnancy.
I have a problem with premature babies
The head of the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy also spoke about the problem of mothers of premature babies. She admitted that this group of women found that maternity leave began immediately after the birth of the child, even though they had to stay in the hospital for many weeks. They stated that maternity leave should start after the end of hospitalization.
Dziemianowicz-Bąk announced that a draft law will be ready this spring, which will extend maternity leave for mothers of premature babies or mothers hospitalized after birth.
She also announced the preparation of a bill to eliminate the gender pay gap. She also spoke about the fight against the pension gap.
We will not raise the retirement age, but we will encourage women to work longer if they want to. Today, seniors are full of energy and potential. The state must simply allow them to realize this potential. We will do this, the relevant bills are already being prepared
– she added.
A new attack towards Hołownia
The head of the Left Club, Anna Maria Żukowska, spoke about what is happening in parliament. She referred to the announcement of Marshal Hołownia, who said that bills on abortion would be discussed in the Sejm after the local elections on April 11.
The left was the first in this term to submit two bills to amend the abortion law. Żukowska said at the convention that the left was tired of keeping “our rights in the freezer”.
We have the right and want the bills on termination of pregnancy, submitted by the Left Club, to finally be considered in the Sejm.
– she said and called on Marshal Szymon Hołownia to keep his word about the lack of a “freezer” in the Sejm.
Speaking about the activities of the left in parliament, she mentioned the draft amendment to the Criminal Code, which changed the definition of rape.
Do we as women want to feel like we are safe? This is the first thing women think about. It’s also a matter of changing the definition of rape. The bill was introduced by MP Anita Kucharska-Dziedzic
– Żukowska recalled.

Candidate for mayor of Warsaw
In turn, the left-wing candidate for the presidency of Warsaw, Magdalena Biejat, expressed her belief that these elections are also about women and that even the chairman of the Sejm, Szymon Hołownia, certainly understands this. According to her, “women’s rights are not an ideological issue or fear of conservative politicians.
These are absolutely fundamental issues that we can also address within local government
– she added.
She pointed out that not every decision is Wiejska’s responsibility.
At local government level we can solve many problems, such as health care and good care in hospitals, so that no hospital has a conscience clause, and so that every woman who wants to have a child has access to good perinatal care.
– she said.
Biejat pointed out that “it is the local government that decides whether we have good public transport.”
For example, women use it to take their children to school. In these elections, the left demands that every municipality has well-functioning public transport
– she added.
What sets the Left apart from other groups is that among our activists you will find women and men who believe in the same thing. Who believe that ensuring women’s rights means ensuring a better life for all of us
– she said.
Biedroń wants abortion… in the constitution
MEP Robert Biedroń announced that his group will fight for the introduction of the European Charter of Women’s Rights, so that women have the same rights in every country of the European Union.
There is no third way when it comes to abortion; you are for or against it, there is no third way
– he said.
As one of the leaders of the left, I wanted to address our colleagues who are currently in power in the democratic opposition: if you continue to interfere, conspire and mislead women in the issue of abortion and termination of pregnancy, then this issue is ours, as left parties , prepared to discuss the introduction of the right to termination of pregnancy into the Polish Constitution
– he emphasized.

Local elections? Good. The left – as you can see – has almost exclusively ideology in mind.
