Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s meeting with the leaders of protest groups as part of the Agriculture Summit has begun.
At the Social Partnership Center “Dialog” in Warsaw, Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Minister of Agriculture Czesław Siekierski started a meeting with farmers. The head of government said on Thursday that he would have an important message for farmers regarding the Green Deal, including: on fallow facilities. He also pointed out that he had not agreed to negotiate with farmers, but would inform them of the actions taken. The head of the Ministry of Agriculture pointed out that during the meeting certain proposals would be presented to farmers and a compromise would be needed from both sides.
Peasant protests have been going on in Poland and other EU countries for weeks. In Poland, their demands include abandoning the provisions of the Green Deal, closing the borders against the influx of agri-food products from outside the EU and defending livestock farming in Poland.
The European Green Deal introduces many directives, including: agriculture, that should enable Europe to achieve climate neutrality by 2050. The idea is to introduce a more ecological and less emission-intensive production by setting aside land, reducing the use of fertilizers and crop protection products by half and a mandatory allocation of 25%. piece of land for organic crops.
Let the Prime Minister take into account that we are closing the border with Ukraine. We, farmers, are now the main players in this issue. I count on good cooperation with the Prime Minister. If there are any specifics, we will suspend or abandon the protests
– he said in an interview with Polsat News Roman Kondrowone of the people representing the protesters.
We have three demands for the Prime Minister. The first – withdrawal from the harmful provisions of the Green Deal, the second – sealing the border against the inflow of agri-food products from outside the EU and the third – protection of animal production in our country
– he in turn emphasized Stanisław Barnafarmer from the West Pomeranian Voivodeship.
