“The Russian Foreign Ministry, the Russian Embassy in Canada, concerned activists and journalists have long demanded the removal of this and many other monuments to Nazi supporters. The Russian Foreign Ministry said the demolition of the monument to SS men in Canada was the first step towards eliminating the legacy of Ukrainian Nazis in this country.
The Russian Foreign Ministry states that if Canada wants to distance itself from the legacy of Nazi acolytes who fled to Canada after Germany’s defeat in World War II, all monuments to such individuals and organizations in the country must be destroyed.
