We deny the lie that the Polish 2050-TD club is blocking procedures on abortion projects, MPs of Poland 2050 assured in the Sejm on Wednesday. As they assured, it is not only the left that is an ambassador of women’s rights. “We are different because we want to change the law in a responsible and, above all, effective way,” they said.
Marshal of the Sejm Szymon Hołownia announced that he had decided to press ahead with bills on abortion in the Sejm on April 11, just after the first round of local elections. MPs from the left protested this decision on Wednesday and announced that they would submit a motion to supplement the agenda so that draft laws on abortion would be discussed during this session of the Sejm.
At a press conference Wednesday in the Sejm, MPs from Poland’s 2050-TD club emphasized that they were women who went to “black marches,” fought for women’s rights and supported the liberalization of abortion laws.
We deny that it is not the case that only the left is the ambassador of women’s rights. Absolutely not. The only difference is that we want to change the law in a responsible and, above all, effective way
– said Barbara Oliwiecka.

The future of the coalition
She emphasized that “law changes must be implemented in such a way that the coalition ends and no conflict arises.”
Because every quarrel in the coalition unfortunately weakens us and strengthens Law and Justice
– emphasizes Oliwiecka.
She pointed out that in the past, almost all projects on the liberalization of abortion laws, submitted mainly by left-wing circles, were rejected at first reading.
If we want to change something, we also have to change the way we work. The trick is to convince the parliamentary majority not to reject the project. And that is our goal
– she declared.
I would like to deny the lie that our Polish 2050 club is blocking everything
– Ewa Szymanowska echoed her.
The MP stated that the Polish 2050-TD club “will support all projects currently before the President of the Sejm.” She added that Poland 2050-TD is in favor of passing them all on to further committee work.
However, we want to make sure that all clubs forming the coalition today, October 15, are unanimous on this issue, because on Wednesday morning it was not yet certain whether the left would support all projects.
– noted the MP.
As she noted, such a statement was only made from the Sejm stage on Wednesday morning.
Żaneta Cwalina-Śliwowska recalled that the coalition agreement included a return to the situation before the 2020 Constitutional Court judgment and the start of a dialogue on issues that were not included therein. In this context, she also called on all circles to enter into dialogue on abortion.
Where is this dialogue? Why do we only hear the cry from the left?
she asked.
During Wednesday’s Sejm session, left-wing MPs criticized the Sejm chairman’s decision. Anna Maria Żukowska requested that the agenda be supplemented with projects in the field of the right to termination of pregnancy. She accused the marshal of “replacing the parliamentary freezer with a smiling cold store.” Equality Minister Katarzyna Kotula emphasized that it is always a good time to talk about women’s rights. Meanwhile, the Minister of Family, Labor and Social Policy, Agnieszka Dziemianowicz-Bąk (left wing), argued that by keeping the draft laws in the parliamentary freezer, the Third Way is hiding its position on abortion.
Third Way voters deserve to know whether they are buying a pig in a poke in this and the next elections.
– she said.
The Coalition of December 13 is starting to crackle! Will the topic of abortion lead to the disintegration of this entity?
