oil embargo

On June 3, the European Council finally adopted the sixth package of sanctions against the Russian Federation, which included an embargo on the supply of oil and petroleum products from Russia by sea.

At the same time, the ban on the supply of crude oil was delayed for six months, for petroleum products – eight months from the moment the sanctions were imposed.

The partial embargo includes temporary exemptions for Hungary, Slovakia, Bulgaria and Croatia. Thus, the export of Russian oil through the pipeline was lifted from the sanctions and a number of benefits for the offshore supply were achieved for individual countries.

In addition, Brussels lifted the ban on the transportation of oil from Russia by tankers under the flags of EU countries.

We add that in May 2022, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Alexander Novak reported that Russian oil companies are looking for new directions and are building new supply chains, and the production of raw materials has increased compared to April.

According to him, Moscow is considering a number of new infrastructure projects to diversify its oil supply. He argued that exports increased in various directions.
